Woman/Girl Man/Boy?

By (user no longer on site) OP     over a year ago

Yesterday Mum and I went to Pizza Hut and were greeted by a lovely man who was the same age as me. He greeted Mum and I by saying "Hi Girls" to which my response was "I'm a woman"

Do you object to being called a girl/boy if you are an adult!?

Doesn't bother me, but that might be because of my 'other' persona

escapes me why its such an issue for some people to be honest

poor manners such as people not thanking u for holding are a door open would grate me much more than being called a boy

I honestly don't care

But if you say "I say boy", you'll end up sounding like Foghorn Leghorn

Nope - and if somebody were to take offence at it I'd think they needed to seriously chill out

I know it was meant to be an informal greeting, but that was not professional imo.

A "good evening, ladies" would have been more appropriate.

In a close social circle or amongst friends, it's another thing, and don't mind at all

Hi ladies would have been more appropriate , but I guess he was just being polite and friendly.

I don't like being called a girl, but it also depends in the way it's delivered.

wow. Some people eh! Imagine trying to be friendly in this day and age. He should have been reported to his line manager, sacked, then taken outside and shot!

another condescending response is the surprised at a womans ability or thoughts on something

"clever woman!"

think that suggests most others are dumb?

It's how it's used - it has no place in a workplace but amongst friends and in social situations it can be ok.

But getting called/told "good girl" makes me

Don't worry, after Ryan's recent life changing events - from Brokeback Mountain and then becoming a CD/TV for a strip tease challenge - I'm sure he can relate to your troubles

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest, in the Pizza Hut situation. I'd just assume that he was trying to compliment me by pretending to think I am younger than I am.

It wouldn't be professional in the workplace, however. And if I was buying something 'serious' (like a car or a house) I would find it very patronising to be called a "girl".

Yes I do and I really dislike it in a swinging context.
