Hating to probably stating the obvious but isn't it worth contacting waste companies to see if they are hiring and your experience.

As a country we are investing heavily into renewables and waste plants etc....its a growth market....and still a relatively young industry....

Brighton - even Hove!

get your CV uptodate....do some interview practice....write down answers to questions you'll get asked like "why do you want this job?" and start looking further afield...get the trade magazine and email the hiring people and address it to them by name - they will like you being proactive...search online and think 'outside the box' - there are lots of small initiatives going on - contact your local council and ask to be put in touch - start networking even if you do a morning a week voluntary work...make a list of your skills, abilities, qualities, training, qualifications etc - don't be passive - say things like "I was responsible for...' rather than "I did this...." make your applications more actiony (which I know isn't a word), say to yourself 'my job is to get a job' and do it all day, don't give up, look round the backs of shops and find out who takes their waste - phone up the waste people and say you'll work 1 day a week for nothing, be a driver...once you're in, you'll get to hear of jobs that haven't been advertised yet and you will get an instant network of people - your work colleagues. Be confident and not down-hearted. Good luck.

It is a terrible time for people out of work seeking a job n personally I don't care for the govt 's outspoken ' they are all laid in bed whilst folk who wanna get on are out at work '

I've pretty much retired now (only do occasional p/t) n from my perspective I can't see how raising the pension qualifying age n keeping old fogeys like me in work is gonna help younger people get in2 the job market! After all ya can't pour a quart in2 a pint pot.

I appreciate fully the argument of keep old folk working as long as possible cos it stops em being a drain on the national pension but it ain't gonna help the many 10s of thousands find a job when we oldies are blocking up the marketplace

Being out of work does not do much for most people's confidence and finding a job is so much easier when already in employment. Just another aspect in this discussion.

Ridiculous situation - people that age should have their last few years enjoying a leisurely lifestyle on a DECENT liveable pension and those jobs could go to younger fitter people who could then regain their self respect and have a decent lifestyle with some cash flow. I wish you success in your job search

I have a friend in your area and i,ll pm you the company name of which he works. Although I cannot have any influence on there being any positions it's at least another option for you to chase up once you've prepped your CV etc.

Good luck
