Not in a terrorist way btw

It's expensive and most of the jobs are there.

So why not relocate the companies across the UK and help out the struggling areas?

Disperse the people who live there and get rid of overcrowding.

OK I guess Londoners will think it's a terrible idea, but in the long run it would be more beneficial to the UK

Don't worry, there are already forces at work that want to take from London, and It's not to help the rest of the UK but their own fat pockets.

"

Because the new location doesn't have a pool of skilled and experienced staff just waiting to be hired. The high value jobs get transferred in the hands of the previous employees and all you do is move a few low value jobs for the locals

"Disperse the people who live there and get rid of overcrowding.

"

If their now redundant they are not going to be able to disperse. And if overcrowding is a problem in the first place, people have a choice not to move there.

Or being equally as daft,,,,,, we could always make London an independent state which receives no additional govenment funding other than what it self-generates,,,

That way the rest of the UK would not have to fund the disproportionate levels of government subsidy and investment the Capital receives......

Hey,,,,,,, or we could just leave things as they are and just demand our politicians spread their policy making decisions with a fairer eye on the whole nation rather than just focusing attention on the perceived value of the south east and it's worth to our over-all economy…

I think that is a great idea, obviously to make it fair any tax income paid by London companies would have to be ring-fence to make sure it wasn't spent elsewhere.

Oh dear. Do you have any idea how much revenue the City of London square mile alone generates. Money which may not obviously benefit others outside of London but trust me it does.

The original Halifax Building Society had its Head Office in Halifax and still has its presence there. But, the Banking division which evolved a few years ago, is located in Edinburgh.

No I don't claim to have any idea at all of the actual figures involved,,, and I do accept the City of London Square Mile undoubtedly generates a lot of money that does in part filter into the wider economy.....

However no disrespect intended, but rather than just say "trust me".... I'd like to see a fiscal breakdown of the actual figures involved which clearly show a percentage related figure of nation-wide spread or distribution of profit and investment generated from the square mile,,,

So do you have some of those figures to hand? because I'd be very interested to read them and I'd also be very interested to know the origin of your figures…......

Over to you!

or we could move the major tourist attractions to other parts of the country..

Big Ben in Scunthorpe..

Buck house, edge of an estate in Manchester..

just cant see the average high spending tourist from the USA, Japan etc traipsing up there tbh..

disclaimer, there are some stunning parts of this country with beautiful attractions of their own..

London is what it is..

Oi Soxy,

its baking hot darn sarf and terms like fiscal breakdown may well cause ones hard drive to over heat..

think the amount generated was about 24% of the tax revenue to the Treasury by the 'financial sector' prior to the 08 crash..

granted not all of those companies are in London..

but its not peanuts, or wasn't..

Because it was merged with the Royal Bank of Scotland?

"HBOS plc is a banking and insurance company in the United Kingdom, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Lloyds Banking Group having been taken over in January 2009. It is the holding company for Bank of Scotland plc, which operates the Bank of Scotland and Halifax brands in the UK,"

That is indeed a huge chunk of money,,,,

Just on a curious level,,,,

I wonder how many of those London based investment company's are driven using funds made up from pension pots and bank accounts of everyday people who live all over the UK who are all obviously hoping to get a good return on their funds …

Just make's me wonder how well the London square mile would get on without public financial support.....

true, the whole funds issue is another 'you scratch mine, i'll scratch yours' murky world..

trouble is (and not yet sorted) the high returning funds were often the result of gambling and speculation..

and the bonus payments etc..

a recipe for disaster, or one of the ingredients therein..

Because if you care to look back at the opening few words of my original post in this thread, you should be able to detect the context of my rely to the original thread topic not delivered in the same nature as your response to my post…

You seem to have missed the irony and replaced it with an opportunity to try defend something that wasn’t being seriously implied…. …
