"Looking to buy a sat navigation for my best friend's car (her first one), can anyone recommend one that is good but doesn't cost the earth x"
check what phone she has and look at the sat nav apps if she has a smart phone.. think the tom tom app is around £50 so its cheaper than stand alone sat nave and she wont have to worry about hiding it etc when she parks the car as she will take the phone with her anyway.

I use a Tom Tom GoLive-it picks up where traffic is and diverts me when there is a quicker route. I can also tell it to avoid certain routes and it acts as a hands free too.
A map can't tell you when there's been an accident and trying to use a map when you're working out how to get out of a traffic jam is extremely stressful!

I drove HGVS in and around London for over 12 years and the best thing was the hardback AtoZ master atlas of greater London and local radio |

So you know what a pain in the bum drivers who don't know where they're going are?!!! Jumping lanes, slowing down to read road signs, cutting you up, reading maps when their eyes should be on the road!!!
Experience and local knowledge are definitely the best tools to have but for someone like me who drives all over the country and regularly visits new places, I couldn't be without Tom. The lane guidance is fantastic and I am never the stupid woman obstructing a queue of traffic indicating to cut into the lane I should have been in!!! |

"Get her a map. Sat navs are the devil. You get too dependent on them
It's for a woman ! Be as useful as giving her an electric saw "
Just because you've spent a night in a tent doesn't mean you can get all misogynistic on us now Ryan.
I use a map, plot the route before I set off and then get lost. It's worked for almost 30 years. |
