after being royally shafted by lovely people at tesco bank.... gone up 300 quid this year.. i went to look at a price comparison site and noticed that admirals price was a good 400 quid cheaper...

so they are now quoting me two prices...

840 for the year, or 750 for the year if i get one of these lovely "boxes" fitted to check on my driving....

anyone had one of these boxes fitted???? what do they actually check on??? speed, whether i give way to people ect ect cect???

We have these boxes fitted to company vehicles ...they know about aggressive breaking, sharp acceleration, speeding and what speed limit was at that location.

I have recently bought a car, my first after several years of driving company cars, and was quoted between £400 and £1500 ( Tesco ) to insure a Peugeot 207. needless to say I went for the cheapest which was direct line.

my concern would be that they would use the info they collect to invalidate your insurance in a claim, lets say u had an accident that was your fault, but accidents do happen. if you were travelling 35 in a 30 area when this happened, they might reject your claim because of your speeding, even if this had no effect on the accident.

black boxes as they car called. do bring insurance down, but like it has been said could create a loophole for insurance to get off paying out.

don't bother with the 'little girls box' as they are affectionately know in the car scene.

the only real use for them is to have one fitted when you pass at 17 to get affordable insurance.

if you want a way to drop insurance do this.

my car was parked overnight on a driveway, by changing to parking on the street and declaring it, knocked £200 off my premium.

see if it saves you anything

the newer ones report on sign language i.e. giving someone the middle finger bird and can lip read so even silent swearing to yourself is out

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I got a quote for telemetric car insurance that was £200 more expensive than other quotes. Their reasoning was that it would come down in year two if I proved to be a good driver.

My brother in law got telemetrics when it was first launched years ago and the deals were very good. In spite of good driving his premium was increased quite dramatically in the second year as the company just hadn't sold enough to bring the costs down. They left the box in in case he ever wanted to return to telemetrics.

Now that more are using it there should be some deals out there but it still wasn't the cheapest when I had to renew my car insurance a couple of months ago.

If you have the quotes in writing onwould be happy to take a look at them for you. The telematics quote should outline what they are looking for.

Normally with young driver schemes they can track speed and hours of use. The policy would restrict driving after 1am. And everytime the vehicle is used after that an additional premium charged.

Telematics are good and you may find you drive mote aware the before.

The savings would have to be much more significant before I considered having one fitted.
