I've had xbox and the 360, but think I will go for the PS4, mainly because its cheaper.
All I want to do is play games, i'm not bothered about the entertainment features the xbox is bringing. I just want a control pad and a decent game |

"The Xbox are going to be charging £10 a month now for there online access. Thought £5 was bad enough "
??? What... didn't hear of any price increase for Xbox LIVE.
I chose Xbox One |

The PS4 has a more powerfull graphics chip that the Xbox One but dont know if they games will be better looking or not but Xbox one might be better media wise.
I'd hold on with the PS4 though there's lots of reports of problems with them with a flashing blue light meaning a hardware failure.
I had a Xbox 360 and the red rings of death I won't trust any console until they been out a while nowadays you always seem to get some manfactuing faults. |

Geek here. If you are set on buying a console, I'd go with the PS. Hardware-wise, it's significantly better than the XB.
Most games developers will make games for the lowest common denominator, so they will look similar on both consoles, but some games will be made specifically for PS and they will look much better.
The PS3 is actually miles better than the XB360, but unfortunately it has taken developers years to get to grips with the system and take advantage of it - the PS4 isn't as difficult to program for, apparently.
Having said all that - if you're serious about gaming, PC is the only way to go. Even a mid-range PC blows the socks off both PS4 and XB1 - in five years' time they'll be leagues ahead.
Why am I talking geek stuff on a swinging site? Search me, lol... |

I agree you can have a PC that plays better games then consoles, but I prefer to just walk in the house after work, open a can, lay on sofa and grab a control pad and play a game. A console is perfect for me |

He has a PC already, but rarely uses it for gaming, so not much point getting him one for mine (its at his dads) and there's no room for one in my tiny flat, hence we both have laptops. He likes xbox live, so thats the one I'm leaning towards. |

PS4 for me, got a PS Vita last Christmas which is good for dull lunch breaks so the two will work together nicely apparently.
Also prefer PS exclusives (God of war & Uncharted particularly) over Xbox exclusives.

You never know, with the PS4 he might end up using it more. Mine goes to work every day, an hour's lunch everyday is long when there's nothing to do.
I've stayed away from minecraft, purely because I've heard it's good but life consuming. |

As far as I was aware there's so little difference between the two that you can't go wrong. What one lacks in one area it makes up in another and vice versa.
But you'll get the PS fanboys slag off the XB, and again vice versa.
I'll stick with my old xbox and see in a years time how things are faring with the two. Not buying one at those prices at launch that's for sure! |
