Top Gear - Losing it

I used to love Top Gear, but I think the new series is losing the magic.

Before in pervious series you knew that most of the stuff they were doing was made up, but it was done in a way that made it believable.

In this series the producers have almost just got lazy, have not gone to any trouble in filming in such away where you think "hmm was that real?"

For example the scene where Richard was racing the Taxis: crashing into the Limo, the car flip, crashing into the cabin all where to obviously fixed.

Watching a magic show is great, but not when you see how the tricks are done

I think their running out of ideas, haven't seen much of the recent episodes, Dave channel has all the old ones which i think are much better, still a top program but think their losing their touch a bit,

I think the last 2 or 3 seasons have lost it. Too formulaic, nothing new to freshen it up. it's well past it's sell by date.

They should probably have more women in bikinis on the cars. Jezza drilling them. The chicks with strap ons drilling Hammond, James may playing with himself.

Can I volunteer to drill Hammond? I don't mind watching James fiddle with himself, but I'd have to avert my eyes from the sight of Jezza shagging over the bonnet

Of course Caz. I'll get my people to talk to Hammond's people. Let's make it happen!

It is rubbish. And they insult the audience by pretending it is all genuine. Yawn.

For me it's been well past it's sell-by for a good while now and something I wouldn't purposely choose to watch.!.

But it does make pots of cash for BBC so there's obviously a willing market for this type of stage managed fodder, and if people still enjoy it that’s not such a bad thing....

Its just an entertainment programme and people like being entertained..... So where’s the harm!

Back in the early 70s, Clarkson wrote a review of an early Range Rover (round south west Ireland, as I recall).

He's gone downhill ever since.

Loads of people still watch it. It does still make loads of money, but I think it is getting to a point where less people will watch it and it will start making less money.

This is a shame, because to me it is just laziness that is spoiling it.

Sunday episode was poor to say the least. However still the best thing on at the time!!

They are clearly manufacturing the funny incidents now where as before although manufactured incidents tgey seemed more natural

I guess everything come's to an end,,,,, but as long as it keeps making money for the BBC it would seem good value to keep it going until they can replace it with something that will generate the same level of income or more,,,

Channel 5's The Gadget show is another programme that seems to have lost all novelty value too..... but its a cash cow for its network..

The thing that spoils it for me are clarkson who thinks he is more important than he actually is and hammond who just irritates me.

Watch it, like it, yes it can be formulaic, but I like that. Even hotlips likes it now...it's not about the cars, it's about the places they visit and watching celebs spin on a track is far more interesting than F1!!

Loved it when they went abroad and done their challenges etc

the winter olympics one was ace, so was when they crossed the channel over the water in theirs "cars", Cambodia when they were on the mopeds i think it was, don't make them like they used to anymore,

I think the presenters play up to their characters too much and as a result some of interplay between them seems a little scripted. There's also only so many features and sports cars you can show

Time for it end as a series and more to a yearly special in my opinion

South Devon

Clarkson and chums have had their day, too much self regarding, phony banter, and so spectacularly unsexy...Clarkson's no bum baggy jeans are revolting.

Like many other successful TV series the Shepherds crook is invariably administered way past the sell by date.

Watching John Bishop, he just described it as a programme about cars presented by three blokes from the BNP. That's exactly why I don't watch it anymore.
