Jump to: Newest in thread
What events in your lifetime have had such an impact on you that you can vividly remember the exact scenario surrounding when you heard the given news in your mind ?
For me 5 spring to mind -
1) News from the hospital that my beloved mum had passed
2) 9/11
3) Lady Diana's death
4) Jill Dando's murder
5) Kevin Keegan had signed for Southampton |

We were in Thailand when the Tsunami came in. We were about 1 mile back from the coast so knew nothing about it until the morning. Many were not that lucky. |

Mostly ones already mentioned which I will repeat.
The passing of elvis, my great gran, John Lennon, my beloved grampa, Diana
Also zeebrugge, hillsborough, deal ira bombing, 1987 storm (right in middle of it), 9/11 (daughter had just taken first steps), 7/7 bombing (trying to calm a friend who's fiancé was believed on the train, he'd dropped his wallet n therefore missed it but we didn't know till much later that day)
More personally, tho only a twinge I knew I'd lost my 2nd pregnancy. Mum telling me she had breast cancer (almost 7 years clear)
Happy news, 3 family pregnancies that had followed on from cancer treatment and ivf courses. Mums all clear. Aunts all clear after years of leukaemia. |

9/11
Was at home chopping fruit for a cake for a celebration and was sat on the sofa with mindless tv to keep me company as I worked my way through a few kilos of fruit.
Watched the whole thing from the 'just happening' with the first plane when they thought it was an accident and then the live shots of the second plane.
My fruit cake mix got a seasoning of salt as I cried into the bowl as I watched. |

I don't remember many of the above mentioned.
9/11 I remember sticking the tv on for 5 mins before going to work and saw it going on. When I got on the bus to work the driver asked me if I knew what was going on cos he just kept hearing bits and bobs. I worked in telesales and we got a lot of abuse on the phone that night!
7/7 I was just at home I think I might have been off sick. I was reading a forum and someone posted 'bbc news, now, I can't believe it' and then was glued to it. Vividly remember the images of the bus.
Diana died - my dad always had his radio on in his room first thing on a Sunday and of course it was all they were talking about.
Michael Jackson died - I was babysitting for a friend who happened to be a big MJ fan, she came home very late very d*unk sobbing and singing Bad.

9/11 I was in France, no TV and we onlt put the radio on first thing in the morning. I drove to the nearest town on the 12th and had radio 2 on and Terry Wogan made some comment about 'yesterdays tragic events'. I missed the 8 o'clock news and when I got back to the house my friend hadn't had the radio on. We went to a neighbours and asked them and we then found out what had happened. I still haven't seen the footage |

Diana - watched the news reports coming in on the tv and at first I thought she had committed suicide. went into Manchester that night for a friends birthday and it was like a ghost town
IRA bombing in Manchester - just landed back off holiday, switched the phone on and wondered why I had 24 missed calls and my pager was going doolally |
