I'm asking this here as it might be a good way to get a broad opinion. I'm trying to choose a new car and I'm having trouble finding one that doesn't transmit every bump, crack and pothole directly to my butt - they seem designed to do just this. Some manufacturers even fit firmer suspension just for the British market for some stupid reason. All this Brit wants is a comfy ride. Can anyone who is a recent buyer suggest a mid-price car that might be what I'm looking for? |

Try the new peugeot estate, no idea what its called but a lovely ride, downside is the dreadful stop/start system as incredibly noticeable. The Lexus is another one for smooth ride, also has stop/start system but not noticeable. These are two cars my friend trialled as his company car, cannot remember what the third one was but it was the most dreadful bumpy ride ever |

We have just bought a seat altea that's a view good ride, very good car basically a golf only cheaper and better spec, only downside is the dealership we dealt with are dog Shit |

I tried the DS5 which is super apart from one thing - conventional suspension! If it had the old hydropneumatic setup I think I would have had one. Will have a look at the C5. |

They have the hydro pneumatic suspension. I'm on my second C5 and getting another next year, a great car and well Kitted out, the seats are very good to |

Suspension can be different between trim levels with some manufacturers...especially German ones. The sports versions of the cars generally have sports suspension which can be lowered by 2-3cm. Another thing to look at is wheel size...bigger the wheel, smaller the tyre and so the firmer the ride. 4x4 type vehicles can feel smoother, but depends on if you want a bigger car like that or if you're looking at Saloons/Estate cars? |

Would consider the 2.2 version, is the ride good and soft? I'm looking for serene and relaxed. As opposed to tired and aggravated! |

I've read that the BMWs with active M suspension give the best of both worlds, does anyone have experience of those? |

It really comfortable, don't feel any bumps in the road at all. All the usual mod cons too. Mpg is double what my last one did and that was a merc!! "

My xf is perfect. Silky smooth but still corners flat. 20 or 30% better to drive than they look.

big though if parking is an issue"
Love them, but it's a company car and the choice is limited by the co2 emissions - big Chryslers don't make the list sadly, even the new ones. If I was allowed to use my own car then yes, that's what I'd get. |

I'm a bit biased from my previous job at Audi, but I always liked the Audi A6 Saloon...the 2.0TDI has low emissions (129 on the manual/132 on the auto) and the SE has all the toys you need and is more comfortable than the S-Line due to tyres etc, plus they always have good Business Contract Hire deals too if that's how you're company pay for them. They start at £30,985 (list) so are around your budget mark?

Ask an osteopath and you will get Saab but not one on anything above 17in rims or a less than 45 side profile. Its the seats that make the most difference apparently above suspension. |

Beautiful , once you take the run flats off. I'd be out of my bra within 2 miles on run flats. Now it's a much softer drive.
Oh and every garage will tell you that you have to tell your insurance and that it will invalidate any BMW service agreement , it doesn't and the insurers don't care |

Didn't realise it had to be new as its a company car.. the superb in the estate version takes some beating as a all rounder but not that cheap when you get a nice spec.. if your company are contract hiring I would do what I used to do and ask the accounts for the name of the contract company and phone then for a list of what you can have at that price.. |

Mrs JFL has a Mondeo Titanium X, fits right in your budget and drives like a comfy dream!
She tried the equivalent BMW's and Audi's and neither came close for comfort or trim/spec levels.
She does about 50k miles a year, so it had to be comfortable ! |
