What does POSH mean this is how its described on the web ........“port out starboard home" (posh).
It's a reference to the days when ships sailed from England to India via the Suez Canal in Egypt and which links the Mediterranean Sea with the Indian
Ocean.
On the outward journey, wealthy passengers occupied cabins on
the left (port) side of the ship to avoid the sun, and on the
homeward journey from India to England, they occupied the right
(starboard) side cabins, thus again avoiding the sun. Therefore port
out, starboard home - posh - and only well-off people could afford
these cabins, so they're known as posh people.

Many of our most graphic swear words come from the Anglo Saxon languages that were used prior to the Norman conquest. Fuck and cunt were perfectly acceptable words till the Norman language, the language of the invader and new rulers was implemented and Anglo Saxon was outlawed and the words became bad language.  |

The cat in the bag reference may be the cat 'o nine tails lash that was used in floggings on Navy vessels from Nelsons' era.... Me thinks... |

To get the sack dates from roman times when criminals would be thrown into the Tiber in a sack with animal or 3 and if he survived all well an good and if he drowned, too bad.
Also, a square meal originates from the navy when they had square wooden plates.
