Manchester/Ooop North help please

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I need a little help from the Ooop North people.

I'm looking for a nice, country-type/boutique-type hotel near Manchester. Ideally with a spa. It's just for a couple of days as a treat for a friend. I've looked on the webby thing but only the middle of Manchester is coming up and I don't know the surrounds well enough to gauge how far away places are relative to the airport.

Your kind help is much appreciated and I promise a kiss to anyone being helpful if you're at the social at the end of the month.

Thanks.

over the hill and far away

Titanic spa in huddersfield is lovely. If you want somewhere boutique and rural but no spa there is a nice one in rossendale with a spa bath and 4 poster bed x if not, hilton manchester has a good spa, same with raddisson. Or try mercure at blackburn.

I stayed at the Mercure on a meet in Blackburn - the beds weren't very big and the showers were crazily noisy!

Arse End of the Universe, Cumbria

I stayed at Kilhey Court, Standish, nr Wigan a couple of times and found it a lovely hotel with a nice wee spa. It comes up as 40 mins from airport though, and 5 miles from Wigan Station so dunno if this is further away than you expected. It's a MacDonald hotel, reasonably priced rooms but bar quite pricey (although that's pricey by Oop North standards, probably dirt cheap to them from Darn Sarf)

Thanks, I'll have a look. I'll be with two teetotal, celibate women so the bar costs should be manageable.

Do they do burgers?

Scarborough

The Lowry Hotel on the banks of the quays is very elegant but pricey as it is classed as 5*.

Ideal for Manchester and not too far from the airport.

Good luck

Thank you all. The lastminute dot com sale has determined staying central, with a pool and booking treatments elsewhere. It'll be easier for my friends early flight and I can fit in a bit of fun if I want/need to as well.

I have noted all recommendations for further visits to the Ooop North.
