After I have had bad periods and have them a lot .. I get UTI s getting fed up with it all and off to docs again today .. My mum had periods until 58 god I hope I don't and I have had that marnia coil too .. last one come out ..I drink loads of water and cranberry juice and now even shower bath n special stuff ... just sex can start this off too so you had this ever ? just some antibiotics he give me don't work and make me feel sick . What joy I will be back on them today I bet so no drinking at the weekend on the boat ,
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are very common. They can be painful and uncomfortable, but they usually pass within a few days or can be easily treated with a course of antibiotics.
They're more common in women than in men – it's estimated that half of all women in the UK will have a UTI at least once in their life and one out of every 2,000 healthy men will develop one each year.

I went through a stage a few years back where I had one every other week. Ended up in hospital with a serious kidney infection too. It made my life a misery.
Had to have a minor operation to solve the problem.
Found lemon barley and a cool bath helped ease it.

i get that, last time was when i got bruised having sex, i have to be careful and use lots of lube as i have sensitive skin. my mum never had thrush or cystitus in her life it just seems some people are prone to these things.
i read a book from the library about a woman who used to get it all the time when she had sex. she said you should wash yourself after going to the toilet.
i use unperfumed baby wipes, no scented soap,or bubble bath i put a mug full of salt in the bath water its good for the skin and kills germs. i used to use ky jelly but i told my doctor that it stings so he recomended a different one by pasante in grey sachets or grey bottle they also do one now especialy for sensitive skin as well.
also use non biological washing powder.
i have to drink lots and lots of water, tea and coffee as well to stop me getting it. the doctor gives me antibiotics when i get it, they do work but they give you the shits, so you have to watch what you eat. |

You sound like me a few years ago...i swore by lemon barley and taking water tablets to make me flush all the fluids i was drinking as i never peed that much and it wasnt helping
Loads of lemon barley not using soap down there(special fanny wash) and no bubbles in my bath sorted it out ....good luck oh and the coil helped as it stopped my periods ive been lucky enough not to have had so many for a number of years now as they are painful and make you feel naff x |

Yes empty bladder before and after sex can help, always wipe front to back, cotton Knicks, keep hydrated are all things ive heard. I would also buy the urine sticks you dip... This way you can start fighting it as soon as you notice it starting.
Must be horrible for you xxx keep your chin up x |

I use to suffer quite a lot with this and ended up in hospital twice with a kidney infection.Take all the above advice posted and as unromantic as it sounds then going to the toilet and then washing straight after having sex certainly helps. Also any sex toys etc can irritate and worsen things. The doctor told me that instead of drinking cranberry juice then take a "one a day" cranberry tablet ,this is concentrated and is the same as drinking 5 or 6 glasses of juice..i also found that wine would make it worse so steer clear if you have an infection |

I find cranberry tablets much more effective than the juice that you have to drink loads of.
The tablets are concentrated and you could take some before a sex session to hopefully prevent.

My sympathy, I suffer from time to time and usually end up having to take antibiotics once a year at least. I never found cranberry juice helps but have got some tablets which I should probably take more regular - good feedback above on these.
I steer clear of using toys now as this really seems to set me off. Pity I used to love mrnotts using my 12 incher on me after he'd finished |

Don't use wet wipes/baby wipes.
Put salt and or bicarb in your bathwater and six to ten drops of tea tree oil.
Cut back on caffeine.
Drink at least two litres of water a day.
Go to a big chemists and get a bottle of potassium citrate - it's the active ingredient in cystitis treatments. One dose at the first sign of any symptoms will really help and reduce the need for antibiotics.
Always pee after sex and if you need to go don't try to hold it.
Certain sexual positions may increase the chances of getting it - the urethra gets a bit battered/bruised and just that can cause symptoms even if there's no infection. So get used to how your body responds to different positions.
Cotton underwear and no tights.
Use aqueous cream not soap and definitely not femfresh to wash your bits - or even just plain warm water.
Reduce the amount of acidic foods and drinks you consume - acidic urine burns, you want it to be alkaline.
Good luck. |

Not read the full thread so don't know if this has been said.
I got some great advice from my GP. She told me to take a solution of bicarbonate of soda in water three times a day for cystitis. And drink plenty of fluids. It works every time.
Speak to your pharmacist about it. |

Live yogurt is good as well, a bit messy but it does work.
Apart from that the advice above is very good !!
Also drinking Blackcurrant can irritate the bladder i was told that by my Disabled daughters incontinence nurse.
Hope it clears soon, its strange that they also call it "The honeymoon's disease" I suppose because of the amount of sex had.
