My tablet was abit slow this morning, it took about 15 seconds instead of 1 to load a page. Got me thinking back to dial up when it would take about 15 minutes just to get online and 10 minutes to load a page. Mine used to disconnect every two hours and it would take 30 minutes on a good day to download one song |

"I miss the dial up connection sound"
I was just thinking that! Brings back memories of my dad sat at the computer and my mother moaning about the fact she couldn't use the house phone! |

I used the internet in olden times when it took about 10 minutes to download a porn image from some shitty newsgroup in Italy.
The images would load from the top down so you didn't know right to the last minute if it was going to be a chick with a dick.
Good times. |

"Mine would disconnect if the phone rang. Frustrating on a cam chat "
Much to my mother (and grandmother's) annoyance ours didn't. I remember some fantastic answerphone messages in the early years. The favourite, repeated phrase, was "When you have finished on the internet!" |

Mine still does. BT Broadband, the worst service ever. Most times 'the webpage cannot be contacted' or 'your connection to the server has been lost' are the messages I get. I've had the engineer out three times and the fault always gets traced to the exchange so things speed up, then a few weeks / months later back down it goes. |

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound |
Chris Addison has a skit about this that always makes me laugh. Wifi (pronounced whiffy).
We had a special room for the one dial up computer in one organisation I worked with in the early days. We had a second special room adjacent for the printer as it was considered too noisy to have it in the open plan office.
Those were the days... |
