Following on from the local bands thread- do you know of any unsigned or little known bands with an excellent/weird name?
My favourite for some time has been Shithorse |

DIP D*unk In Public.
Rev Hammer and a few of the Levellers.
Used to play acoustic sets in pubs. Had an old crisp box as a bass drum with the pedal tapped to it with duct tape!
Bloody brilliant.

I remember Neds Atomic Dustbin (a fine name itself for a fine band) playing warm up gigs under the name Dog Doofer- and anagram of the album they had just released |

In the late ninetees there were a few Welsh bands, some still going with odd names:
Super Furry Animals
Manic Street Preachers
Weirdest of all Gorki Xygotic Mynki (think that's how you spell it)
'never found out what it meant |

Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
Gorky - just a name and not Welsh I think. Always thought it was taken from Gorky Park which is in......Warsaw? Somewhere in Eastern Europe
Zygotic - it's a biology term. Not Welsh
Mynci - Welsh spelling of monkey.
Not really very Welsh at all if the above is correct!
I always like the eighties indie band of little repute called
Ken Dodd's Dad's Dog's Dead.
Oh, and Gaye Bikers on Acid and Lesbian Dopeheads on Mopeds |

Thanks for the explanation. I've learned a couple of new facts today.

IIRC, the Welsh bit was that they mainly sung in Welsh

If you like BDG then stuff like Hybrid & Infected Mushroom you must be familiar with. Rob Da Bank was banging out some eclectic stuff this morning at daft o clock. |

I'm a huge Orb fan, got in to banco purely by reading a review saying how good Maya was- so took a punt and bought it |

There's a band that plays pubs around the Bridgend area called Two Hats.
Cos I'm posh (!?) I didn't get it until my friend said not to pronounce the 'H'
Duh!!! How I laughed when I did get it. |

And named after Les "fruitbat" carter's hard earned reputation. |

If ever a band proved that spikey hair and studded jackets does not make you a punk it is that bunch of Arseholes. |
