Any IT guys or gals in?
Wtf is a gateway address? And why has my laptop just popped up a message saying my gateway address is missing/invalid ?
I was cleaning out some unused programs ( macafee ). And it just seems to have fooked it up, the laptop recognises my wi fi but wont connect to Internet because of this gateway address fault? Any help anyone?
Cheers !! |

Reset your router It should reset the default gateway and thus reset your internet connection via the router |

Go to device manager and uninstall the wifi adapter, once done right click on any device and click scan for hardware changes.
That will re install your wifi adpater and should then reconnect |

The connection between the laptop and the router via wifi seems ok, good connection, it's the connection beyond the router that isn't working, |

If all your other devices will connect its the laptop not the router and you need to reset or reinstall the adpater for it to reset its gateway/IP/ Mac address |

The gateway is probably 255.255.0.0 which is what your laptop will use to access the Internet. Sounds like its been removed from the wireless settings. Could try conecting to your router with an either net cable to see if you can access that way.
Good that sounds geeky |

"Default gateways are usually the address of the router ( 255.255.0 is the subnet mask )
192.168.1.1
192.168.1.2
Are the usual gateways "
Oops so it is.
Still worth trying the cable |

"Its all getting too technical !!
The hammer theory is winning at the moment ! "
Ok try this its dead easy and may do the trick......
1. Click start button ( bottom left corner of desktop )
2. In the search bar type " cmd " without the speech comma's lol
3. Click on the top result, little black and white box with cmd by it.
4. This will open a dos prompt box
5. Type the following including spaces...
ipconfig /release
6. Once that is done ( should take a second or two ) Type the following
ipconfig /renew
All of your adpater settings and internet settings should be renewed and you should be able to connect

I'll let major Ingram loose on it, it usually works after he's had a go at it !
I can cope with 3 computers for now. But why does it have to be the bleeding laptop with all the recording software on it??? Bugger, bugger and bugger again. |

Will do ! Now just got to sort out all these bloody cables and make sure they all go to the right places, if you hear a load bang it's more likely me caused it.
Got a girl band coming in a few days to record their first album so I hope all this goes to plan !
trouble is , all my laptops do a specific job and I've set them all up to be max efficient at them, one is a storage and back up device, one runs the bank of CDRs one runs the mixing consol and playback and the one that has bloody broke runs all the other three !! |

I've spent four bloody hours reassigning the software so that the other three can do all the jobs that 4 used to do. Gggrrrr. Fingers crossed they don't ask for any stuff to be patched in from outside. |
