how fast should I have gone.

Ok this is partly so I can see Fabio explode.
Location northern Spain,
I have just ridden a real hard mountain pass at the top is a brand new motorway but behind me the viaduct is not complete so this is the start! I can see miles down the pass and no vehicle anywhere. So this stretch of motorway probably for 10 miles is mine alone.
The bike is an fjr1300 new to me.
So just how fast should I go? I may or may not tell you what the sat nav said my top speed was.  |

Hopefully about 150 mph
Not a biker myself, last time on one was on the back of a gsx 600 and the crash barriers in the central reservations look scary at those speeds...  |

Just ridden up a steep pass with hairpin after hairpin with no crash barrier so to be honest this looks about as safe as a marsh mallow logo.
Speed limit btw is 120km in Spain. About 80mph ish. |

Sat nav said fastest speed that day was 163mph which sort of impressed me as the bike is luggageed up. Of corse that could have been the speed the satnav traveled when I dropped it. 
Yes of course when I know the road is safe I should find out just how fast the bike will go |

And just to provide some comfort to Those that declared speeding a hanging offence the other week, today I am in Italy temp in the lowlands is 40+ and not much better in the mountains. So max speed is around 60. As I know I don't function well when too hot. |

Some cracking roads in Northern Spain - good road surfaces when I was last there.
Warm tyres, forget the speed - on the rev-limiter, fast as you like (or it'll go).
Found any locals who want to play?
Have you tried the hill climb course from Arriondas up to the Mirador Del Fito (hope I've got that right).
Drove it enthusiastically the night before the official meed with much encouragement from the crowd.  |

Fj13 do they actually go fast, I seem to remember they fitted a clock to them to tell the rider how far behind everyone else they were.

yeah they carry too much weight, and the power output really should be capable of another 10 - 15 mph , plas they are a bit long in wheel base to really hack about. But be honest could you carry luggage for 2 for a month on a really fast bike? |

These type of roads are nice if you can get the corners right, bloody annoying when you don't.
Off topic I would love to go down the road on my bicycle, be interesting to aee how fast I could do. |

People commenting that they thing speeding is stupid isn't asking for people to be hanged.
If you want to speed and start threads about it fill your boots, but I am not sure who you are trying to comfort by saying you are now slowed down as it is warm.
I would say most people think speeders are daft and don't need worrying about. |

I am trying to make the point that speed is relative to conditions. There was little to no risk on the road in Spain there was high environmental risk in Italy today. |

Plenty of them here and in Spain they chase the motorbike down hill at 60+ with 1" wheels and virtually no brakes. Make me feel like a total wus! What's more they peddle up them first! |

I'd have thought many swingers were risk-takers. Not to mention the swingers who smoke and bareback. (not necessarily at the same time).
Limits are arbitrary. Like swinging, riders make up their own minds as to speed and risk. Long may this continue.
They must also, of course, accept the consequences if it all goes wrong.
Fast riders who are experienced, know the limits of their bike and of themselves, and have complete concentration, reading the road well ahead, are less of a danger than drivers on mobile phones. |

It all goes terribly wrong... Whoever the poster is talking about a motorway with good visibility, as he mentioned in his post.
There could have been a problem with his tyres during manufacture... What if... We take our lives in our hands everyday, sometimes other people put our lives at risk. It's a buzz going fast and a calculated risk on the conditions as seen at the time. I'm sure he wouldn't do it whilst passing a school at 3:30 in the afternoon  |

5 mins on a fast bike is more than most folks see in a lifetime what a buzz you know your alive and yes I am a biker who was knocked off at 30 in a street by a lady in a bmw result no splien etcetc but I still do it lol im alive speed dont kill people do |

I was on a viaduct about 2000 meters up, the road behind me had not been built road in front was brand new. Very little chance of any animal or holes or any other risk. Bike had just done about 1000 miles on current tyres etc. this was about as predictable as life gets. And probably safer in fact than a track day where there can be traffic etc to work round.

God no, I would wait till 3:35
Great day today very small mountain passes average speed 32mph hard work all the way many 20mph speed limits through very small villages but a great days riding. Speed is not the only buzz the view and the skill of getting there is usually more. In Austria now. |
