Nothing particularly difficult about them. I just use the same cleaner I use on the granite in the kitchen. Seems to do the trick and haven't seen any issues. Only thing the salesman did say was to be careful as while a wooden table will stand a knock and just look well used a marble one looks awful with a crack in it or a chunk missing. |

Granite is more durable than marble and both cost about the same, and would opt for granite myself.
Avoid black granite as in Nero Absoluto or however it is spelt though as every mark shows up. The pearls and patterned ones are more forgiving.

Marble or granite topped tables need to have a substantial base for it to be stable.
And they are heavy and difficult to move.
Better to have a fixed base rather than one that has the top placed on the base without being fixed to it, IMHO.
