hard drive failure. It's either come loose, it's screwed or they've managed to wipe it (unlikely).

Make sure your booting from the hard drive, turn laptop off and them turn it on again, and press F12 to go into boot records make sure it is booting from hard drive and not another device.

You need to check the bios to see if the drive is recognised.

Boot it up and look for the command to start the bios (usually tells you to press the delete key or F1/F2 key)

If you can do this then look for the hard drive page in bios- usually the first page- and you'll need to navigate using arrow keys as the mouse or touchpad won't work.

It should tell you there is an internal physical drive and give you a size in bytes (something like 38079654).

If you can do that then the drive is probably working and may be corrupted

Do you have any other devices ie a CD/DVD in the drive.. .the laptop maybe trying time boot up from that. If so....remove....and switch off then on again.

Thank you ever so Much for all your Help and information..

We have tried loads of your ideas and some from really nice experts..

Now when we switch the laptop on itself is even making a similar to an ambulance siren sound...

In other words we dont feel it can be saved anymore and we now have a pile of 3 ancient old laptops that are no good lol.. also too scared to scrap one of them because its full of our pics !! lol

SO now looking for another cheap old laptop that we can use to keep our kid happy for an hour playing kids games on the internet.. anyone got an old laptop they dont want ??
