"Anyone on here clued up and could recommend a decent microphone to record vocals onto a laptop that i could mix with a backing track?"
The Shure Sm58 is an industry standard for vocal mics, just make sure you buy from a reputable source as eBay is full of fakes. You will also need a mic lead (XLR to TRS connector). Then you will need a basic mixer to control the level and output leads to put it into your laptop. You should be able to kit up for around £100-£120 if you shop around. If you plan on doing longish sessions then it might be worth getting a mic stand and clip- about another £20 from somewhere like Thomann.

What he said! Lol! Can defo recommend Thomann though. Excellent website and always had first rate service from them (all to do with my obsession with drums )

"Worth investing in some good software too
Acid Pro is good especially for mixing vocals over backing tracks, its pretty user friendly too "
I love Acid! Spent hours making tunes with the loops. If you do decide to get Acid, Sassy- give me a shout as I have tons of dance and classical samples for it (I think) |

I switched to Acid years ago after using Cubase and Logik, so much easier and user friendly
Have around 30GB of loops and samples also if required |
