Driving around Milton Keynes

Wellingborough

I have just come back from MK, and it is one of the places I hate drive around. Because the way the roads are lad out and the many roundabout there are many people see it as a racetrack. You have to watch off for being cut up all the time, people pushing it too much around roundabouts etc.

So which city, town or even village do you hate take a car around ?

Not a city but driving on the M25 on a Friday afternoon is as bad as it gets.

Unless your driving on M6 around Birmingham on a Friday afternoon, which despite the toll road, still makes everyone think the M25 is a doddle....

Make that any afternoon 3-7pm or morning 6.30-10am- except for school holidays, when its a tad quieter

Northamptonshire

The Periferique (Parisian version of M25 / North Circular Road). Very interesting in a coach.

Swansea.

At red lights, turn your engine off, turn the music up and close your eyes because you're going to be there for a long, long time...

Milton Keynes

At least Miltom Keynes is traffic free most of the time and you can reach speeds of over 100mph on some stretches and there isn't any speed cameras, well not in main MK only in fenny strattford, bletchley area.

How many cities do you know in UK that you can do that.

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

Leeds is a nightmare if you don't know it intimately. If you take the wrong turning off the Loop it can be miles before you can sort yourself out again.

You get dickhead drivers anywhere. I live in the countryside and get cut up daily and hear bike engines getting revved to shit down the country lanes. Doesn't matter how a place is laid out.

(I'm from MK originally so get defensive of its strategic grid system layout )

I wasn't saying that I do those speeds but I see it every day and usually reults in horrific accidents. But why they don't have speed camera's is beyond me.

Was meeting White once in a hotel, rang to say I was 5 mins away, could see the hotel, could see the car park, could I get to it, took me 30 mins, after almost driving out of Leeds

Hull

Manchester City Centre!

Has anyone tried to drive out of that??

There are virtually no clearly displayed directional road signs anywhere!

Even my brother who lives in the area, says it is a nightmare for any motorists dependent on direction signs.

And don't get me started on Birmingham!!!

Jasper Carrott, the Brummie comedian, used to have as part of his act, a skit on how the authorities in Birmingham send out squads of Police at the start of each day to issue drivers new to the area with a ball of wool each so they could retrace their route out of the place. Plus Police at night would look for drivers cowering like gibbering wrecks in their cars, who'd got lost trying to find their way out of the city!!!!

"Leeds is a nightmare if you don't know it intimately. If you take the wrong turning off the Loop it can be miles before you can sort yourself out again."

Leeds holds no fears for me now, but when I first moved here it was horrible and I know what you mean with the one way system. And during rush hour it can take the visitor to the city an hour to get a mile or two as they don't know the residential areas to cut through, which alleys their car can squeeze through and which kerbs they can mount.

Personally motorway wise I hate the m6 from brum to Manchester, the shit bit of the m62 round brighouse and of course the m1 round chesterfield which is always fucked from 6am to 9am and 330pm til 6pm. Despite the fact that Chesterfield isn't even a big city.

City driving though Birmingham is my personal worst. Of course London is shit, but then that's expected its massive, I don't know why everyone in the capital doesn't drive smart cars tbh.

The crappest for a small population to drive round has to be York though sadly. In rush hour the shit hits the fan as most of the council haven't heard of dual carriageways.
