Because the length of the sentence hasn't been updated since 10'000BC.

Are you talking prison sentences?

Or is this a 'meaning of life' question?

because you have to give people hope, something to look forwards too, if you have a prison fill of lifers imagine how hard the job would be for the prison wardens, if you have nothing to negotiate with how do you keep them in line? if a prisoner think he could be out in 10 years for good behaviour he's more likely to tow the line, if he has nothing to loose by rioting what's to stop him? and if you have 20 guys in a prison with that mentality that's putting prison workers in danger, life is life if you don't behave you only get out early on good behaviour

.

But why not say the sentence is 20 years, mess up and we extend the sentence for BAD behaviour

P.O. Box DE1 0NQ

The longest jail term to a single person on multiple counts went to Charles Scott Robinson, an American child rapist, who was sentenced on 23 December 1994 by a judge in Oklahoma City, USA, to 30,0000 years, the jury having recommended 5,000 years for each of the six counts against him

Life sentence in this comes with a tariff ie: the minimum number of years before the prisoner can be considered for parole. The tariff can in some cases mean life without parole. Any lifer that is released on parole. Is never truly free, they are subject to strict probationary conditions and any further offences mean straight back to prison to serve the rest of the life sentence

Also you would have a very high number of suicides and sometimes sentences are wrong i know its few and far between but it does happen.

Although in some cases i do believe that they should have to serve the full sentence

why should it be life

if u take some 1 else life, and found guilty then you should be given the death penalty

uk is outdated for this

an the law must change

yes life should be life but most cases there out after serving less than there sentence
