Died earlier today after a brief battle with cancer

One of this country's greatest contemporary fiction and science fiction writers

I was a particular fan of the Wasp Factory, the Crow Road, and his scifi works about the Culture.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Very sad. As a friend said, The Wasp Factory was our Catcher in the Rye.

I'm glad it didn't go on for too long.

Never got on with his Ian M Banks stuff, but the Wasp Factory and Complicity remain two of my favourite books.

Just borrowed Stonemouth from the local library. Looking forward to it after the positive comments from posters above.

RIP

Complicity I hope will be remembered posthumously as one of the great modern novels. Crow Road was also a great read. And getting a publisher to pay for him to visit every distellery in Scotland to opine on his favourite single malt was simply genius! Thought his final choice was wrong but life would be dull if we all agreed. RIP.
