I seem to find myself with one of my neighbours kittens (that somehow managed to get out of their garden, through another and into mine!) sat on my lap now it has calmed down and no longer scared and shaking purring away

Looks to me like its only about 6/7weeks at most - its been years since i've dealt with kittens this young, the neighbours have been out all morning and looks like they aren't planning on coming back any time soon (who would want to in this

weather!) so i need to give it something to eat soon as its been over an hour since it arrived and i have no idea when it last ate!

From what i remember weetabix is OK for them at that kind of age, if i make a bit with water that should be OK for him shouldn't it?

N.B - I now want a kitten!!!!

I've never heard of giving a kitten weetabix! You learn a new thing every day.

If its that young weetabix might be too heavy on its stomach but bread and milk saps would be ok

I'd try a small amount of weetabix as I'm sure they start being weaned at 6 weeks x

I think I'd go to tesco and grab a little tin of kitten food just to be sure. I'm a worrier tho! Would hate to make it poorly.

Well atm i can't currently move as it is fast asleep on my lap purring away so i don't want to disturb it - especially after the scary morning its had!

As soon as it wakes up i will offer a bit of soggy bread and more milk and see if he wants it

I REALLY REALLY REALLY WANT A KITTEN NOW!!!!!!!

Yep! Cow`s milk if it doesn`t make a cat sick straight away it`s prolonged use can lead to kidney failure and blindness

I can here one of the litter crying where he left them - Is it normal that he really doesn't seem to care and keeps curling back up like he's trying to cover his ears?!

Then again he does seem to be pretty comfy curled up between my legs

I still think a phonecall to the RSPCA might be worthwhile if they are outside on a warm day like today. Anything could have happened to the little one you've got (who I'm called wuv!) he's incredibly lucky that its your garden he found himself in.

Looks a bit young to have left the litter tbh

And i would offer to keep it - but it has a hard lump of skin on the top of his head, like a bit or something that has gotten a little infected (its like a little bubble, its only small but on a little head looks big!)

Are they all outside? I didn't think kittens were allowed out till after they have their injections at around 12 weeks!

Its a good thing next door weren't in with their Rottie!!

I'll give them until 4pm, if they haven't come home by then i'll re-think my plan!

Are you sure it's your neighbours cats and not a ferral litter. I'd hate to think anyone would knowingly leave a litter of kittens outside.

Use warm salty water of the infection. My cat gets in scraps all the time and comes home with abscesses etc.

With regards to feeding I reckon the idea about a pouch of kitten food was best, just keep them warm and comfy and I'm sure they'll be fine.

In addition - awwwwwww!

I live in the middle of nowhere, we are the only 6 houses here unless you go up the road and across the main road or go over the bridge to the next lane

They breed rabbits and usually have litters of kittens every so often so i'll be surprised if its not theirs!

Plus like i said i can hear the other kitten crying from their garden

Can you go get the other kitten? I feel bad it's outside in the heat. A wee call to the local vet maybe? They'll be able to at least give you some advice. Hope they're okay. Bathe the lump with lukewarm salty water... clean is good. And finally hats off to you for caring.

Kittens that age SHOULD NOT be outside.

If they are your neighbours, they don't deserve them back until they learn how to take care of them.

Sounds like they're just a money making scheme to them,to me

Please please ring the Rspca National helpline 0300 1234 999

If you explain the circumstances they'll arrange for a volunteer to come pick them up. The kits need to see a vet as soon as possible, especially the bitten one. Rest assured no animal will be give back to a neglectful owner and if they mother needs attention she'll have it if the rspca get involved.

I'm a volunteer for my local branch and unfortunately this is a common occurrence.

Good luck and keep us posted

I tried that number and every time i went through all the selections it would say look online then cut me off!!

I've just got back from my local RSPCA office and they have given me some cat litter and food to tide me over for a bit until i can see the owners. They won't take them in because they aren't sick etc plus they dont have the space and i know who the owners are

i've made a cat litter tray out of an old small cutlery tray organiser

The owners still haven't come back so looks like i may have them til later or even overnight!!

They seem happy enough anyway - they're running around following me and the child everywhere and busy attacking shadows, curtains and each other!

Don't know if anyone has said this so sorry if they have ........... My cat has had 3 litters of kittens so I know a bit, if you don't have kitten food ( kittens can be weaned from 4 weeks) some tuna in water of brine they will love, or some chicken or plain fish cut up in tiny pieces.

Most people don't get kittens till they are 8 weeks, at least I'd never let mone go till then.

"Are you sure it's your neighbours cats and not a ferral litter. I'd hate to think anyone would knowingly leave a litter of kittens outside.

Use warm salty water of the infection. My cat gets in scraps all the time and comes home with abscesses etc.

Can you get to that one too?? They can cuddle up together then! X

Update: The second kitten has just arrived in the garden, having found its way to its friend. Please Me (and her little boy) are currently calming the scared new kitten down. He's a bit smaller and is terrified too.

Oh that's good news!! Poor things. Least someone's looking out for them now

Her little boy is being really gentle with them and she's just looking after them the best she can. What an adventurous Saturday for them all!

My lad is animal obsessed. He would love a pet. Not allowed dogs or cats so trying to decide between a tortoise, huge rabbit or guinea pigs for Xmas

African Pygmy Hedgehogs!!!

I want one

I got told you have to clean their bristles by hand and its a right pain in the arse. They are super cute tho.

Gateshead

Read the first few posts on this thread and skipped the rest. No disrespect to all those animal lovers out there but I just knew that those kittens were going to end up in a loving and caring home. You really don't have a choice if a cat decides you are the one lol. God bless you op8 x

The kittens are fine. They weren't abandoned - had just escaped from a neighbour who had a buyer lined up.

The buyer pulled out and Fox was given the option of having them. They're currently fast asleep on the floor, have all new 'kitten kit' - carrier, bed, scratch post and litter tray. And have been well looked after by the original owners and checked thoroughly by the vet.

Jabs, neutering/speying and all required vet involvement is sorted.

They're going to be a very happy pair of smitten kittens!!
