Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

Driving through the Potteries yesterday and today I thought it would be nice to have a little holiday just randomly visiting brown sign places.

What are your favourite brown sign places.

Not 100% sure this has a brown sign, but the Media Museum in Bradford is great, loads to see and for the kids to get involved in, handy location for a none driver like me, places to eat food you've brought with you, and it's free.

Taking kids to the Bradford Industrial Museum soon, another good one, I've been with college and really enjoyed it.

The one that always brings a smile to my face when I pass by is near North Weald airfield, near the M11.

It proclaims loudly.... SECRET NUCLEAR BUNKER..

It's actually underground and all you can see from the surface is a humble late-50's style bungalow, which was the disguised entrance.

I haven't seen that one. I will be looking out the next time I travel the M11.

Why has a canal got a brown sign?

Museums always have a brown sign. I will have to have a look next time I am in Bradford for longer than a meeting.

Why has a canal got a brown sign?"

There's a couple of other places of interest on the brown sign. It's not the main attraction.

The canal museum has a brown sign here in London but I don't think I have seen any for the many canals we have. I hope I won't be disappointed on my brown sign holiday visiting your (c)anal.

I snigger every time I see the sign.

I think if you visited our (c)anal you'd like it. Especially in this weather.

I'm assuming you're referring to (C)anal St in Manchester?

I know. I don't think a tour of exits would be much of a holiday though.

In Plymouth one of the McDonalds has a brown sign, it may be why so many people take their kids there. Maybe they think it's a cultural attraction.

Here's a link to a picture of the sign on flickr, as there has to be some disbelief that this could actually happen

That's because I was typing on the tablet, too fast, and omitted the word obsessed.

She says you're a proper, purist, brown signest if you see one and just go along spontaneously. If you plan a trip to visit brown signs it's fine just not pure brown signing.

How is that possible? I thought there were rules for these things. I know they have to pay for them but the area can't be so devoid of things to see that Upchucks gets a sign?

I sometimes add time to take in brown signs. I've seen some lovely places I would never have added to my list of things to do if I was just planning to visit things.

HaHa not entirely sure, it made the local papers and to be honest I'm not sure if it remains. If you were to climb the stairs on the left you would find a very well preserved Palmerston fort which is open to the public on certain days and run by English Heritage, follow the road for 10 minutes and you're on Dartmoor national park, maybe McDonalds just though, well all the other signs are brown...
