Balls on the bandwagon

This morning, Ed Balls (he who believes he is the true Chancellor of the Exchequer) has announced that, in the event of a Labour Government in 2015, he will withdraw the Winter Fuel Allowance from 'wealthy' pensioners.

Now, one of the tennents of Socialism, as I understand it, is universality of benefits. In other words, if ya bring it, everyone gets it regardless of circumstances.

So, does this proposal fly in the face of young Ball's socialist ideals and/or smack of jumping on a populist bandwagon..?????

Costa Blanca Spain...

Balls wouldn't know an ideal or principle if it slapped him in the eye.

Definitely a popularist pipedream.

This will help lose some votes for them, even though the rich OAP's involved would have probably voted Tory anyway.

I do sort of agree with his sentiments, but then I think why should OAP's be punished when they have earned their wealth and a right to winter fuel payments.

Why shouldn't the MP's who are claiming for petty things have their repayments cut?

Or the ones taking payments for asking 'questions' when they are already being paid a salary for supposedly representing us...??

His speech showed a total lack of accountability for the diabolical economic polices of the previous Labour administration which helped nosedive this country into the financial fiasco he now seems to blame entirely on the present governments recovery plans….

He is a weak orator who inspires little confidence from his inability to move away from attacking the unpopular policies of other parties while championing populist changes that would only generate tiny margins toward reducing the national debt,,,

Regardless of political allegiance I felt it was nothing more than yet another un-substantive speech typical of any party wallowing in opposition…..

A load of Balls…

I'm not a Ed Balls fan but I think that he has a point on this. We need to make savings and why should we give Winter Fuel payments to people who can afford to live very comfortably on their incomes. He should also look at including those people who spend winter abroad. We most needy in society have felt the brunt of the cuts so those that don't need it should be next in line.
