I always let the fire brigade know if i am changing a fuse.. if i do it right.. always a bloody good excuse for a party!!! lol |

Got the old cooker out but calling in a sparky as the cable looks decidedly dodgey, it has a chocolate block cnector in the middle and lots of blue tape !!!! Eek  |

Ermmmmmmm not wanting to be a spoil sport but we have a saying in the trade
red to brown and blue to bits
You do realise firstly you are breaking the law connecting your own cooker and that whilst a domestic socket will give you a shock a cooker point will kill you.
Please get a spark in you dont get second chances with a cooker point.

You do realise firstly you are breaking the law connecting your own cooker and that whilst a domestic socket will give you a shock a cooker point will kill you.
Please get a spark in you dont get second chances with a cooker point.

I did switch off all the power at the fuse box and disconnected the old one. When I saw the dodgy state an electrician (yes he was registered) had left it in, I decided to go no further and call in the professionals... obviously not him though. |

So a socket will give you a shock but a cooker outlet will kill you - why would that be then ?
A ring main and a cooker are both fused at 32A (30A if it's an old board) both will kill you .... Easily ..
Even something fused at half an amp but with mains voltage will kill you, so please folks, don't be getting any false sense of security by reading what is said above |

So a socket will give you a shock but a cooker outlet will kill you - why would that be then ?
A ring main and a cooker are both fused at 32A (30A if it's an old board) both will kill you .... Easily ..

Yes they both have the ability to kill you but the cooker point is far more likley to do it and as i had already said you should not be touching your electrics yourself.
If you wish to discuss the finer points of household electrics please feel free to mail me an i will be happy to put you right.

So why is a cooker point more likely to kill you, you still haven't told me ??
In simple terms, it isn't. It's no more or less likely to kill you than any other outlet in the house.
And if you look at the Part P Regs, you'll note that fitting a new cooker to an existing circuit is not reportable under the regs, thus in fitting that cooker no law has been broken ..... |

A few years a go my tumble dryer packed up so being clever i decided to check the fuse. All im saying is i couldnt move my arms for a couple of days and the smell of burning flesh isnt pleasant. Mind you my mother did go out and buy me a new tumble dryer as she said it worked out cheaper than a funeral |
