Ooh , my parents had two black Morris Travellers ,they crashed one into a tractor and my brother shot through the gap between the front seats and stuck his head through the speedometer , which is in the centre.

I thought it was funny , oddly he didn't .

Morris Minor 1000 for £50 as soon as I drove off the forecourt, the big ends started rattling.Got home, put thick oil into engine,it happily rattled away for 2 years before it gave up the ghost, and seized.Top speed was 45mph,loved every minute I drove that car, sorry to see it go to the great scrapyard in the sky.

Bet you do, go for a mint now. Sold mine part finished for £1500 about 5 years ago- if i had it now with time to finish it would be best part of £4k in the condition it was in.

First car was a mini too, 1100 special in canary yellow with a hole in the boot floor big enough to put my head through

Nought to sixty in 21 seconds, you just had to keep the speed up, wide wheels and lowered suspension helped, as did being young and foolish

Arse End of the Universe, Cumbria

I had loads of cars when I was learning to drive as our family business is a garage and I got whatever was available until it was sold. My first car that I had for any length of time was a white converted fiesta van with a dodgy starter motor, registration GBV 71W (I called him Gilbert). I had to carry a hammer with me to tap the starter motor whenever it needed it - nowadays, I wouldn't have a clue where to find the starter motor and I'd probably be arrested for carrying a dangerous weapon were I to have a hammer in the car

My first one was a 1954 Austin A30, which I bought for a tenner out of my own pocket money when I was 10. The idea 'had been' for me to keep it on a farm (my Dad knew the farmer) so I could learn to drive it without crashing into anything more important than the odd sheep or chicken.

Unfortunately, my 'plan magnifique' got scuppered after my Dad drove it home, decided it was too good to waste on an oyick like me, and MOT'd it and put it back on the road - for him!!

After that, my real first car was a Cortina MkIII 1600XL estate I bought in 1980. Wonder what happened to NKR 623M..?

Ted

Someone who beat me to it!!! I had a hand-me-down 1956 A35 from my Dad. Before I drove it on the road I put a Riley 1.5 engine, gearbox and rear axle in it!

My first was a mini which I blew up so a friend put a 1300 engine in it for me.

The first one I bought myself was an MGB roadster which I had for 8 years and loved it. AKB 850J I only sold it because I moved to London. Big mistake! Anne
