"u can have it!!!!! well maybe everythin except the thorntons toffee!! "

I've had to throw out the last of my xmas grub, i'm getting out of shape and don't want the temptation!

Actually, just bought a new road bike yesterday so i can get into training properly.

My friends & i are doing the C2C in 24hrs later this year so really need to be in shape.

Anyone wants to drop weight i would seriously suggest taking up cycling (plus you get killer legs & bum!)

Gym is definitely the way to go or Weightwatchers.

Something where there is a bit of a goal and you know you need to get cracking.

And exercise on its own wont do it. trainers have told me you'll never out-train a bad diet. And when you see how much effort goes into burning even a few hundred calories you can appreciate it.

Good luck!!!

A short squat and very overweight woman was talking to Trace at the gym.

The conversation got onto P.V.C clothing, the woman said could she get some in her size.

Trace replied "of course and not just in black, the red looks fantastic",to which the woman replied "RED!!! I'd look like a feckin Edam!".

Spinning clases are the best exercise. Ive been going the the gym for years but since I started spinning I am much fitter and feel better in myself. I do 4 spinning clases a week, 2 other exercise clases a week. go to the gym 2 times a week and do 4 to 6 hrs of martial arts clases a week as well as exercise I do at home and I eat healthly. Exercise fills a lot of my spare time. And I am still a large lady but fit and heathy according to my doctor.

Spinning classes are ok - especially if you don't like being outdoors - but you can't beat actually getting out on a bike.

Once you have ridden 10 miles you HAVE to ride back home, no getting off & going for a shower!

I regularly mtb but just bought a road bike to do some regular training on.

Don't get hung up on 'weight' though - concentrate on changing shape instead. You can drop a dress size yet not actually lose weight because you have increased your muscle mass, and that weighs more than fat.

Plus, your cardio-vascular system will be in far better shape.

(can you tell i'm evangical about cycling?)

the word "diet" is lethal, the minute u go on a diet you crave things u think u cant have, all u need to do is change your eating habits, u can still eat the "bad" food, just in the right proportions, and excersise too, and u will see the weight drop off. I've just been to the gym and done 2 classes on the trot, body combat and then an abs class, its so much fun.

More likely that his body has adjusted to the demands of his training regime!

You should see a bunch of mtb'ers in the Peak doing a 30-40 mile ride, we'll stop at the Cafe in Edale halfway round & eat the place empty then get back on the bikes.

Mind you, you can easily do 5000+ft of climbing in the Peak so the energy demands are pretty high!

TBH i'm deeply suspicious of the whole diet industry.

I suspect it is symptomatic of our 'quick fix' culture in that we want immediate results but not to have to change our lifestyles.

To lose weight/get fitter it's not enough to starve yourself for a period of a few months then go back to what you where doing before, it's about changing your life.

Before i took up cycling i was doing the usual stuff, eating crap (still do) drinking all weekend and smoking dope.

I'm 5'2" & ended up weighing 10 stone plus, not a good look on a small frame!

Took up the cycling and the weight dropped away, not just from the exercise but from the fact i would not go out on a Saturday night because i wanted to ride on Sunday morning etc.

IMHO it's about finding an activity you really enjoy, whether it be cycling, running, dancing, swimming etc and doing it because you enjoy it. If it's a chore you will find any excuse to give it a miss, if it's fun you will find any excuse to do it.

I've gone without stuff for the house in order to fund that bike part i needed etc.

its a simple solution eat less move more!! we all look for the quick fix or blame our genes etc im the worlds worst for it but i know its simple eat less move more!! the diet industry worth billions of pounds and plays on our insecurities and of tryin to fit into the idea of perfection etc. its taps into our low self esteem and body conciousness! iv done every diet from the atkins (windy and smelly) to the cabbage soup (extremely windy and smelly) and the only effective way is a balanced diet with loads of exercise. or my gob stapled shut lol xx

But they are so shiny - and they knock 0.125grms of the weight of the bike!!!!!

I'm not too bad on the bike front, only own 3 - and two of them were relatively cheap at £130 & £500.

I've just bought a road bike for £500 and it's lovely! "Cheap" is a relative term when you're dealing with bikes - most ordinary adults spend circa £100 on a bike then wonder why it falls to pieces!

GT's are nice bikes BTW - i had a lovely one but had to sell it to fund the expensive one

It doesn't really matter what you ride as long as you enjoy it but a decent bike will feel better & be more fun

Want to go out for a ride now but full of a cold

yeah your right, ive always been a bike person, used to compleat in off road mountain biking many years ago, most people think a bikes a bike but when you have been on a good one you know its not, a friend of mine who used to do the racing with me many years ago has a Zaskar, now they are nice bikes, got 3 kids now so i could never afford one as my kids have to come first but after being on hers if i didnt have kids to feed id think nothing of spending 2 grand on one, everyone likes different things and we are all willing to spend money on things that are important to use i remember paying £320 for a set of rock shock forks and lying about the price to people so they didnt call me mad lmao

Oh yeah - the GT i sold was a 2001 Zaskar Race (US built) cost me £1600 to build up & i sold it for £900

never get stuck in traffic on a bike and they kind to mother earth too

Prefer to ride off-road as then i don't get the tin-clad road warriors trying to kill me, but i do commute (when working) by bike, cheaper and more fun!"

Unfortunately too many cyclists define 'off road' as 'on the pavement'.

Annoys me too - but not as much as the drivers who say "get off the road, you don't pay road tax"

The fact that no-one pays road tax, they pay vehicle excise duty o their emmissions - cyclists are zero emission so therefore no tax.

Cyclists do fund the roads through Council Tax.

Cyclists/Equestrians/Pedestrians have a legal right to use the Queen's Highway, motorists are merely licenced.

Spinning is boring - does have it's uses though. My partner is currently using the gym bikes to get up to speed for when we go out on the bikes again. There's no substitute for actually getting out & riding though, especially when it comes to handling the bike on rough terrain. If i get this job i'm going to treat myself to a bike holiday in the Alps or the Pyrenees!

"if it works for you fine, i lost 8 stone with weight watchers and id have paid £20 a week for that cause id have never done it alone x

got to goal stopped going and put 3 stone back on so went back last week, for me it worth the money cause i know i will stick to it if i go, soon as i stop going i start eating again lol"

And that is what they rely on! They don't teach you how to stay slim, they just help you do the initial work of getting you slim! We know a few people who went on Weightwatchers and they are now convinced that they have to pay the money to stay slimmer

Just look at the recipes they have and do them for yourself! If you are prepared to hundreds of pounds for Weightwatchers every year, why not invest it all up front and go see a diet therapist. The very least you could do is get a Paul McKenna CD!
