Most retail businesses absorbed when it went from 17.5% to 20, so they wouldn't reduce prices if it did go back.
I remember years ago someone saying that if businesses didn't claim off purchases and pay on sales, just paid on sales VAT could be reduced to something along the lines of 5% and HMRC would still get the same revenue |
