DO NOT use Go Daddy for webhosting as they are not very good at it based on what I read via WebhostingTalk.
I use Hostgator for webhosting and they are very good.
I used FrontPage to build my car-related blog in the past and it was fine for the intended purposes.
Since the blog crashed a few years ago due to the then webhost going bust and I did not have a back up copy of the blog, I had not re-built the block as I had moved on in my life.
Therefore, I cannot recommend which software to use. However, I downloaded a freeware called Kompozer with the aim to build a new blog eventually.
I would suggest getting your own domain name first, as you can then set up your e-mails. Go Daddy is fine with domain name purchasing, just don't use it for hosting!
Good luck with your venture.

If you were looking at a wordpress based site, great if your going to blog to your site tec which gets you better google rankings as well, I'd recommend you think about paying to add the Thesis theme as it is a very easily tweakable front end.
If your thinking a more static site then Artisteer. |

I can recommend using Vidahost for your hosting service, changed to them last year after 10 years with 123reg- what a difference! they can pretty much host anything you want from a basic html/wordpress to a forum, e-commerce site etc and the customer service is 1st rate. I sent them a question about configuring my iphone to receive emails at about 12.30am- got a reply in 7 minutes!!!
As for making your own site, it depends what you want it to do, if its just some text and a few pictures, use a simple template to drag/drop or copy/paste the contents yourself- although I would recommend getting a pro to do it for you. I did a html course last year and i still struggle with getting my designs to work quite often, have a look at people per hour for some good rates on design work- you supply the content and a web template or a site design you like and someone with the right skills will do it for you (and often for about £100-£150 for a simple 4 page site) |

we have used 1 and 1 for a few years and is a reliable hosting site and we have done around ten domains with them. You could do your own site very easy with a simply program called ewisoft. it is $40 and very easy to use. |

There are two main styles and advice varies according to what you want.
Style 1 is a catalogue / leaflet type affair where your contact info. and what you do is out there and doesn't change much. for this I would recommend a bit of software e.g. those that come on magazine covers, that will create offline and upload the system, hosting is pretty easy and you probably already have space from your ISP just need to buy the name. Do a search for BlueGriffon as an example of a good bit of easy software.
Style 2 is an interactive thing that needs regular changes, these need a database backend, so you will probably have to pay for it. I can provide hosting at £50 a year including the Domain Name and plenty of databases (two is usually ample I provide 5 for that price) How interactive? that's what costs the money! WordPress is free'ish and allows you to do a blog even a simple shop is possible, forum and other interaction again is free to buy but takes time and effort to set up. A full blown shop front is doable limited knowledge is required and I recommend you pay to have it set up to start you off but maintain it yourself it's the maintenance that costs the most. |

I'm using wordpress these days, once you get the hang of it it's fairly easy to work with, as for cost I've built a fully functioning shop for less than the cost of a pint. Took a bit of time though, let me know if you want some help or advice. |
