Celebrity crap

Am I alone in thinking television is just too full of celebrity shows ?

Celebrity Big Brother

Celebrity Come Dine With Me

Celebrity Dancing on ice

Celebrity Dance on the floor

Celebrity Dance on the ceiling

Celebrity Cooking programmes

Get me out of here I am a celebrity

and numerous more

Most are unheard of celebs, probably trying to revive careers that have dried up or trying to keep in the public eye when the public couldnt care less about them.

And who are Celebrities, many are boyfriends or girlfriends (mosty ex's)

of stars or other celebs, the new occupants of celebrity Big Brother include the ex girlfriend of a Rolling Stone, the ex boyfriend of someone famous for her tits, the current boyfriend of same titty woman, a woman who is only famous for her exploits as a Madam in a brothel (love Vinnie Jones in there though).

I prefer to see everyday people on shows like come dine with me or showing thier talent (and lack of it) on X Factor or Britains got talent.

Ex Big Brother contestants who are now more famous than top sportsman, for what, showing what a dickhead you are on TV

For every 10 "celebrities" on these shows 8 are nobodys really and 2 are people we have enjoyed seeing doing what they do.

I know it makes for cheap programme costs and the costs can be recovered with phone-ins and competitions but surely we can be given better than this

Or am I alone, do you all love them ?

I cannot stomach any of the Celeb shows, including that god awful fookin Jungle crap. I usually like Ant & Dec but they're really starting to irritate me now with that prog (it's on in our house coz Siren is a Geordie and they all stick together).

Bring back The A-Team! Now there was a boys prog if ever there was one... a big hairy mean black dude, a rugged good looking bastard that gets all the chicks, a brainbox leader who can solve ANYTHING and the smart egghead type fella who comes up with all the weird cars/tanks/rams etc etc.. What a show!!!

Failing that I'll settle for Lindsay Wagner doing a bionic cunny session with Linda Carter in her Wonderwoman outfit.

All those channels on Sky and we are reduced to watching NCIS.

Just cannot stand those dopey celeb things either - a gang of no marks and losers making fools of them selves. It's more fun snuggling under the duvet in front of the fire with the camera!

Nothing like a bit of DIY on a cold night

It’s quite a sad reflection of things when people who have achieved nothing and have no talent whatsoever are forced upon us as being celebrities.

I wish I could remember the name of a documentary I watched a year or so ago… school girls being asked what their ambition was in life and a bunch of them were very focused on their career path and determined to be famous for their achievements – they wanted to be WAGs

Are they really being forced upon us? There's countless channels, both tv and radio, out there and the minority broadcasters are pretty slick at ensuring there's something interesting available for those who refuse to watch celebrity based nonsense.

I'm hoping the departure of Jonathan Ross from the BBC will mark a serious change in thinking at Auntie's house.

What I haven't gotten to the bottom of is why it's set in LA. If you're going to move to the west coast San Diego would be a much more obvious choice for a navy/ marine based series?

They certainly try!

Tabloids, magazines, Celebrity shite on telly…. I wouldn’t mind one or two of the television programmes IF they were all what I would consider proper celebrities and not the scrapings from the bottom of a very deep barrel. I’d quite like to watch Vinnie Jones in the BB house but at the same time I disagree with being ‘told’ some of these other people ‘ARE’ celebrities.

And those who want to celebrate people for their tallent and achievement have a choice who the media force into the limelight under the banner of celebrity?

Especially loathed the 'celebs' in Africa for Comic Relief, handing out mosquito nets. Apart from Gary Barlow and Ben Shepherd, their egos were inflated by falsely believing they were feted for fame, rather thnan indigenous culture.

That's a different question altogether. The absence of 'your' sorta telly doesn't make watching shite telly compulsory. There's always a choice and sometimes the act of switching over every time Ross or Brand (or whoever) appear - even on the news takes you to unexpected and sometimes much better viewing.

Thought. The completely useless Giles Brandreth (spelling?) was on Today this morning talking about quiz show - Mastermind, University Challenge and, to an extent, A Question of Sport - and pointing out that some are amongst the longest lasting shows on telly yet have mostly avoided anything to do with celebrity (except maybe QoS - but nobody really watches QoS for the personalities). They're also dead simple formats.

OK, you get 'celebrity' versions of these shows but that isn't the attraction. It's ordinary folk being tested against each other and, of course, the viewer. Same applies to the better radio quizes - Brain of Britain having been cited by a member here recently.

No soaps, celeb, or all the other sheer waste of time programs on our tellys.

If we all stop watching them they would not put them on so vote with the off button.

Absolutely not. It comes down to the size of their egos being visible on screen and me finding it offensive in the setting of extreme poverty. it just gave an insight into their intelligence, actually

This is part of the fascination of reality shows. Human nature is fascinated by a freek show whether its Ccelebrities making fools of themselves, ordinary people thinking they can sing or people with unusual genetic conditions or extra limbs etc. Its all makes watchable TV.
