Amazon had a tax bill of £3.2m although sales in this country were £4.2bn. Their UK arm claim only £320m turnover.
They paid £2.3m but got a grant from the UK government of £2.5m.
That's the biggest "in-work benefit" claim I've ever heard of. |

The only scrounger that pisses me off is this one huge aggressive european lady - who only stands outside this massive supermarket selling the big issue..
But it seems that she is only homeless once a month - and - at the end of the every month ..
roughly around about the last friday payday of every month..
and she seems to disapear by the monday..
hhmmm apologies in advance for any offense caused..
But we call her payday pro.. |

How do you know it's on payday? One of the points of The Big Issue is about people being able to work when they need to in order to support themselves. |

There's always someone who knows a homeless person who actually lives in a mansion and has 3 cars and so on and on. As you say, I'm pretty sure Big Issue makes sure that their sellers are truly in need. |

I know I titled the thread provocatively but it's funny how a thread about Amazon getting money from this country rebounds on someone standing in the cold/all weathers selling a magazine to earn some money. I should have known better. |

Yes, I think a sense of proportion is needed sometimes. Amazon and Google avoiding millions of pounds of tax? Pish and tish! Someone selling all their mags quickly so not having to be out for a couple of days? EVILLL! EEEEEVILLLL!!!! |

I am constantly surprised at the animosity directed towards Big Issue vendors and the lack of understanding of how it works. Lots of people think they're begging, lots of people think they do it "instead of getting a job" |

Sorry your very valid and interesting thread got hijacked like this.
Amazon contribute to the problems we are having as a country but because we get cheap things delivered free to our door we turn a blind eye and it is far easier to demonise our fellow man than a faceless, corporate entity. |

Scrougers, eh?
Blimey, don't get me started on tax dodging scroungers else I might have to delve into a fifty year long rant about the grasping bastards. People like Philip Green, who owns M&S yet pays a fraction of the tax he owes because he set up a scam with his wife ...
.. or George Osborne, who owes us all millions in unpaid taxes because he hides his earnings in overseas accounts ...
.. or David Cameron, who criticized others for dodging their taxes whilst doing exactly the same himself in a scam set up by his dad, the fucking hypocrite ...
.. or any of the other scrounging MPs of every party who embezzle millions from the public purse in bogus expenses and mortgage payments whilst selling us all down the line by way of bought policies to placate the corporations who bankroll their parties and, at the same time, using their pals in the gutter press to spread hate and resentment upon the poor and disabled in order to divert the attention of gullible morons and justify their sociopathic corruption.
And as for the banks ... well fuck me, I'd need a millennium to sum those cunts up!!!
Personally, I should like nothing better than to publicly disembowel the fucking lot of them with a blunt runcible spoon. |

Christ, this is post of the day. Very, very well said. On all points.
Aphrodite was trying - in vain as it turned out - to make a point re huge corporations being the bigger enemy.
Lets refocus on that hey x |

A point was mentioned on the radio about Amazon, apparently one of the reasons they are based in Luxembourg is that there is 0% VAT on Ebooks i.e. Kindle, BUT every time I buy a Kindle book it says that VAT has been added as they have to charge it on Ebooks....
So are they charging me the tax and keeping it??? Think I may have to demand a refund. |
