Esteem-able acts

As an overweight women on Fab I really have to be on my guard and protect my self esteem!

My friend has always told me that in order to maintain or improve our self esteem we must do esteem-able things (which never really meant much

For all the other bbw women on here (and others too), what advice would you give to improve someone's self esteem and confidence?

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

I'm not sure what would constitute an esteemable act.

I think you can build your self-confidence by doing things that you are good at, provide a challenge and you get better at. The esteem comes from learning to love yourself and being the best you that you can be proud of. That, for me, has little to do weight and much to do with with mental health.

Brighton - even Hove!

I agree with lickety. Be good at something and know you are. Remember, you never know what people are thinking!

Over the rainbow, under the bridge

I stop looking at women's magazines and skinny pics of celebs looking astonishing (they have all the time and money in the world and an army of professionals behinds them to look like that).

Try going a month without looking in the mirror - which makes putting make up on a challenge. Seriously - try it! It will work.

Dress as well as you can for your body shape regardless of size. If you have curves let your clothes accentuate them - don't bury them in baggies!

In 2010 I was fortunate enough to inherit some money and put some of it towards a professional photo shoot. I wanted to prove to myself that despite my size, 20/22, I could look as sexy and desirable as my new partner made me feel and that I had the confidence to strip naked in front of a stranger (as a prelude to swinging).

It was the best money I ever spent, I have a disc full of lovely photos and my confidence soared as soon as I saw them and has been soaring ever since.

The photos made me believe in myself and made me see myself the way David saw me. Yes, there are bits of me that I am not entirely happy with, but plenty of slim women have those too, I am 53 years old and my wobbly bits are a part of who I am now.

I can look at myself now and love my body and that self belief and confidence stems from how those photos made me see myself in a whole new light.

You should post this on the Body Gossip website too (perhaps remove the line about swinging though). Brilliant.
