Firstly.....most if thus post will be tongue in cheek to vent my frustration lol

I have decided that I must be at my ideal weight as nothing I am doing seems to shift any of the Damn stuff!!!

I have recently changed my diet to a much more healthy one. No more ready meals or takeaways, pretty much all cooked from scratch etc. I dint eat carbs such as potatoes, rice, pasta, bread etc as I am diabetic and find that cutting these out lowers my bg levels.

I have become more active doing between 30 mins and an hour of exercise a day. Mostly walking or the couch to 5k plan. Yesterday was too rainy to go out walking so I went to Ceroc instead.

Yet still I seem to remain the same weight and it's really starting to fuck Me off!! I dint want to lose weight for aesthetic reasons, I'm happy this weight and gave friends and family who love me like this and a wonderful fella to boot. It really is for health reason as if I don't get my by under control I will have to go in insulin and I really don't want that!!

I also have PCOS which can cause weight gain plus I believe the contraception I am in causes weight gain too but I was hoping the changes in diet and exercise would combat those.

This must be the longest post I have ever written lol one last plea......anyone fancy being my personal trainer free of charge?? Lol either that or I'm writing off to 'obese: a year to save my life' to get in the next series

Firstly I loves you and the way you are but understand why you are doing this. My dad had to do the same thing. secondly you do need carbs in your diet even a small amount...thirdly it takes time and having pcos does hinder those from losing weight...you are doing everything right its a difficult battle to loose weight but you will get there...xxx

I get some carbs from the veg that I eat. I might introduce a small amount of Brown rice or something in.

Oddly when I came back from grillstock at the weekend I'd lost a pound even though I'd eaten bread with some of the food etc

You'll find that you're converting your fat into muscle, so you'll not se much difference to start off with, but keep going and you'll then start to see the change

Whatever you're doing though, you must be feeling fitter and healthier

i lost two stone last year. i stopped eating sugar used candarel instead.

stopped eating meat, dairy products.

i eat weetabix, soya lite milk, porrige with soya milk and hot water on it.

fruit, plain youghurt, some chicken, tin pilchards, sometimes low fat cheese slices, or cottage cheese. lots of vegtables and sallad. i also eat soya mince, quorn burgers, fish cakes, quorn slices instead of ham, if i dont eat ham. I eat nuts sometimes as they are good for diabetes. you can also get soya lite yoghurt. flora margarine in the blue tub is very nice too.

Sounds positively disgusting

I managed to lose 18 lbs through exercise alone, but over a year, and a change in total body fat content, so much leaner and muscle mass, but the exercise I do allows me to continue with my normal healthy diet, nothing cut out and the treats I feel I deserve

Feeling smug, North Wales

EVIE my chuckling bunny! Take heart!

I take a cocktail of ELEVEN prescriptive drugs everyday most of which affect my weight! Also I'm unable to be very active so things like the gym etc are off limits.

I did manage lose 4stones coupla years ago n have kept it off. This was my success plan.

Half an hours walk a day ain't gonna do much! It is better to walk BRISKLY for an hour 3 days a week - apparently u continue burning fat for 24 hours after each walk!!

In the intervening days stand in front of mirror n wobble n shake all yr body (yeah I know sounds silly but I'm being serious)

For breakfast have porridge made with water n nothing else added. If possible do NOT eat again after 7 at nyt. Also have one day a week when u have a treat such as a cake or chocolate etc cos that way u can always c a 'happy event ' on the horizon

Also STOP eating off dinner plates n put yr meal in2 a cereal bowl which ensures yr portion control us effective

I suffer with PCOS and obesity too. The PCOS is made worse by the obesity the obesity made worse by the PCOS.

I've tried every diet plan going and every fad (over the laat 17 years) and exercise regularly and I'm just stuck at this weight. Ive begged my GP for everything..After 17 years of GP appointments I am only just being referred to an endocrinologist so fingers crossed he can balance my hormones enough to get me on the right track

It's hard but there has to be a way :D

As other posts have said the most important thing is to understand that healthy weight loss is not instant. Time is needed to establish a relationship with food that isn't extreme or hostile.

Why most diets fail are because they are not realistically sustainable. It's a difficult and frustrating process when results are not immediately apparent, but there is no magic bullet.

Don't let food become an enemy, enjoy it, but just eat less, be patient and in two years you won't recognise yourself .Keep the faith!

I've lost almost 2st in 2 months by being active and cutting out the carbs but I do also calorie count and try to hit about 1300-1500 calories a day. I lost 5st in 5 months a few years ago doing the same thing. I used to find that when I was struggling to lose, upping my cals a wee touch actually helped! I have a small chocolate bar every day now and still losing quickly

Well done in making the decison to change your life and actively taking steps to make it happy.

I'm by no means an expert butI have experience of trying to manage my own weight (and provide advice/guidance to family and friends around this)

I hate the term diet personally, as I try to get people to see what they do as a lifetstyle change. Diet has a negative stigma and to me is a shot term fix.

Not recently to my knowledge. I might mention it to the nurse. I am going to record everything I eat the week before I see her and be as true to what I am eating now so no making myself look good in front of her as that will make false representations etc.

Just went out for one of the couch to 5k sessions but only managed 4x60 second runs today...I did all 8 on Monday. Think my head wasn't in it. Will do better on Friday

Evie it is about finding out what works FOR YOU....we all lose weight using different methods. I lost 5 stones in 6 months doing only Atkins, never got off the sofa once. But that was the wrong way to do it....and I put it back on...

Changing your lifestyle to one you can live with is more important, you have medical issues which will make is harder but aim for fitter and the rest will follow.....

Good luck xx

You say you are happy then further down you ask for diet/ personal trainer advice.

If you are happy, be happy! As long as you are healthy- or as healthy as you can be with diabetes (if you know what I mean) then just smile and be happy.

Who gives a fuck what anyone else thinks. Life is too short to spend it wanting to be something else.

This might not seem Mich but it's the most successful I have ever been at losing weight lol

I would use your own judgement as to your ideal weight, we all know deep down when we have put weight on or when we have put too much weight on. I think for most people its a case of hard work/excersise and finding a healthy eating plan that is balanced, sustainable and that actually works!

My ideal weight is 9s 2lb's, at the moment I weigh 10s 4lb's im a size 10-12 so I think I would look underweight if I listened to the "expert"

I'm sure you have but have you looked into pcos and the things that effect it. Ive discovered that most things deemed to be ok and sugar free such as diet drinks have a massive effect on pcos sufferers. I have pcos and have put on lots of weight with it but despite it being a bastard to lose I've taken 4 stone off cutting out all sugar free products and using the slimming world plan which seems to be the other one that works for me. I did start the gym and Zumba but that's just knackered my knee so am currently pretty much immobile reliant on crutches but still when I stick to plan can lose - 12 lb in the last 3 weeks.

Whatever you do good luck with it!!

Try looking out a BBC Horizon programme from Dr Micheal Moseley from February 2012.

It talks about the effectiveness of High Intensity Training versus prolonged traditional workouts and explains that approx 15% of the population are not genetically pre-disposed to respond to aerobic training.

The scientist behind the research is called Timmons, would have linked to it but would probably get shot at dawn by the admins so google away

And good luck with the weight loss I know how hard it can be.

I found out i have PCOS about 10 months ago, that combined with the Pill makes it a bitch to shift weight!!

I've found for me personally what most people say works for them does the complete opposite for me!

It has taken a while but i think i may have found my 'regime' - will have to see if it carries on working or is another 'works for a while' thing

I'm here if you want any help

I must say though, there's no better exercise than sex - you actually want to do it, you don't have to get out of bed (or wherever else you may be!) and you can burn tons of calories trying to reach orgasm - Win Win!!

"You'll find that you're converting your fat into muscle, so you'll not se much difference to start off with, but keep going and you'll then start to see the change

Whatever you're doing though, you must be feeling fitter and healthier "

You do realise it physically impossible to convert fat into muscle don't you! They're totally different tissue types. It's like saying, I've lost an eye in an accident, but it's ok, I'll convert a tooth into an eye and use that. I think what you mean is by gaining muscle mass and losing body fat at the same time will balance each other out on the scales. For this reason, get your scales, lock them away and forget about them. Go by how you feel, how you look in the mirror, how your clothes fit.

Anyway... To the OP, regardless of any conditions, you need to eat balanced. If your diet is out of balance, then your body will be out of balance. Carbs from veg won't cut it. You need complex carbohydrates as your main energy source. Things like sweet potato, brown rice etc. and make sure you have low GI foods to prevent you getting an insulin spike.

When cooking brown rice, do it on a low heat and leave it for an hour. I use a low salt organic vegetable stock cube in my rice, and it takes the sharpness and bitter taste away from it.

More importantly, make sure you're getting a good amount of good fats in your diet too. Good fats are essential for hormone production, and hormones are used to help burn body fat.

Avoid fruit.... Most fruit is full of fructose, and fructose avoids the glucose to glycogen conversion, so most of the time, that sugar is going to store as body fat.

Lastly, good luck, and if you genuinely want some real, highly educated in this field, advice, send me a message with any concerns/questions and I'll get right back to you.

I appreciate your advice but I have tried diets that include ccomplex carbs etc and they don't work for me. My BG levels go way too high and I do not want to go on insulin at my age. I saw a guy at work after he injected and he looked like shit.

Like I said in my update this is the best I have ever done changing my lifestyle so I will continue on my low carb, medium protein, high fat for as long as it works for me as well as increasing my activity levels etc. I have regular checks with the diabetic nurse so will be able to see any complications when they arise but after looking into this alot it seems that this lifestyle is very effective for diabetics.
