Manchester

Used to like Sunderland as they have strong player and manager links to us (Utd), but after last season I would have liked to see them get relegated.

Oh well, still been a good year!!

Support Arsenal so sympathies for Wigan. They should've beat Swansea last week.

Let's get the three points against the Zebras and send the spuds to the Europa league.

Without Champions league that won't happen. Players are only keen to play for teams in the top competition. Spurs need it to keep Bale. They must be bricking it!

"Ohhhhh thanks gooners for that.... phew....

Sorry Wigan...

Didn't Wigan win the thingy at the weekend? Why is everyone sorry for them now?"

And in answer to your question Lickety.

Wigan won the FA Cup on Saturday which was the first major trophy they have ever won in their 85 years history, so it meant loads to them and most people (apart from City fans) were happy Wigan won because they were the underdog or football rivalries influenced whom people wanted to win.

People are saying sorry for them last night and this morning because after having been in the Premier League for 8 years and staying up against the odds for 7 of those seasons, the defeat by Arsenal last night was the final nail in their relegation coffin and they were relegated to The Championship which is where they will play next season, whilst also playing in The Europa League by virtue of winning The FA Cup.

In truth, they have survived most seasons by the skin of their teeth and this year thier luck ran out, last night being their 20th defeat in the league this season.

Here endeth the football lesson, time to get back on with work, politics, Fab and everything else you enjoy....

PS for future pub quizzes in years to come, Wigan are the only team to win the FA Cup and be relegated in the same season.

Newcastle and Gateshead

there is just one other twist to the champions league discussion...

if chelsea draw.... and arsenal were to win by the odd goal scoring two more than chelsea... they would have the same points ,the same goal difference, and the same goals scored/against.... which would mean they would have to playoff for the 3rd automatic champions league place...

sounds confusing.....

so... if chelsea were to draw 0-0 for example... and arsenal won 2-1....

chelsea 1-1, arsenal 3-2 and so on...

Play-off.....

simple yep.... er nope....

the rule is in the FA rule book... but because it has never been used, no one knows how it is going to be applied....

so it could be a one-off game at a neutral venue... or a two-legged affair

so arsenal vs chelsea at wembley one off then?????

erm..... even more awkward.... stay with me

right... chelsea are suppose to jet off straight after the last game for a post season tour (where actually they are suppose to play man city!).... so there was talk about arsenal vs chelsea, one off game at wembley next wednesday night.....

easy right....but....you can see this one coming... there is a problem!

UEFA don't allow the host venue of the champions league final to be used for 10 days before the game...

so..... where else is big enough to host the game... and when?? White hart lane? the olympic stadium?

I almost want this to happen now....

"dont understand what di canio has done wrong to get the childish abuse from a certain couple posting on here, apart from murdering the unwashed on there own ground."

Dealing with the Di Canio situation, the first thing is simply the newspaper reports and pictures that appeared to show him making Facist salutes to if I remember correctly Napoli fans, plus various other links that the newspapers then got their teeth into.

Di Canio then denied it all and frankly it's interesting that it came out after he became SAFC manager, but seems to have been overlooked throughout his previous playing and managerial career.

On a side note though, I was listening to a radio program in Liverpool last night, where the interviewer was chatting to a local sculpture who has been behind several football related sculptures and a SAFC fan whom has written a new book. During this interview the SAFC fan stated thathe'd been a lifelong SAFC fan, hadn't missed a home game for years etc etc but he had chosen not to go to the last 4 SAFC games, and wouldn't be going again, because Di Canio was manager and because of his "alleged" facist views and actions. While only the words of one SAFC man, it was unexpected in the context of the interview and does suggest that maybe theres an undercurrent of concern amongst some SAFC fans about Di Canio and his politics.

What I find amusing about the rivalry between some football fans is how easily they jump to criticise the supporters of other sides rather than acknowledge the lack lustre performance of their own club..

It’s a defective tactic often used by naughty children,,,,

You've let Sunderland down.

But most of all you've let yourself down.

I demand you hit yourself with a stick for 5 minutes.

Newcastle and Gateshead

"What I find amusing about the rivalry between some football fans is how easily they jump to criticise the supporters of other sides rather than acknowledge the lack lustre performance of their own club..

It’s a defective tactic often used by naughty children,,,,

nooo..... it works more like this...

for example, I am allowed to say "my team is shite"

and fellow supporters of my team are allowed to say "our team is shite.....

but if followers of the local rivals say "your team is shite"... it all kicks off......

But your team is Shite Fabio.... "

ya wanna fight... i'll just wafted 60 million quid in ya face!!!

"Good for villa - they play nice football and lots of young english players. Feel sorry for wigan - wish sunderland and their nazi asshole manager went down.

i think you will find this comment started it, and i do not make a habit of coming on here slagging mags as ive been accused of, i started a thread about arsenal and wigan and it got hi jacked by 2 certain posters slagging my team of, oh and rest assured i would never meet ignorant people. kettle calling the pot springs to mind

would love to hear your reasoning behind that comment, if there is any."

for a start someone says they wish it was Sunderland that went with their Nazi asshole and straight away you presume he's a Newcastle fan or why else would you say apart from murdering the unwashed now after reading all his/her msg it say nothing to say he supports newcastle, but you had to jump in with that comment. How that for a start

But I like the visual aesthetic of self-flagellation.

If you must be aided, so be it. Tut.

i was retaliating to a horrible post clearly aimed at me, that really had nothing to do with the thread, so show me a yellow card for retaliation.
