Anyone ever had one as a pet?? My lad loves animals and I'm not allowed furries in the flat, but reps etc are allowed. So was thinking of saving up and getting him a tortoise for Xmas. I know you can keep them indoors with UV. Xx |

Friends had a rather troublesome one that would nip and hump every cushion or foot it found.
If you get it for Christmas it will be asleep, which may not be the best way to get your son interested in looking after his pet. |

My sister has to hank and marvin she keeps hers inside in a vivarium with heat lamps and uv,quite easy to keep she also puts them out in a run in the garden when warm. |

Seriously expensive to buy a big one these days.....
I think I'm right is saying many pet shops only sell British bred ones now……
The ones I looked at were about 100 quid each and no bigger than an half a tennis ball…

I've spoken to the pet shop guy it's a very good local shop I've had stuff from there before he says they are licensed from breeder and micro chipped x |

We have two leopard toitiose, trev and dennis, they dont hibernate so are ideal. They are vegatarian, and have a high fibre diet, love strawberries dark green cabbage. They require a hot and cool end to thier tank, reqyire a heat lamp and UV lighting.

Yeah i rescued 2 from a bad owner a while back. I had trouble sleeping knowing there were crickets etc in my house! Lol. My ex used to have to feed them x |

If you are happy with him then go for it. I think tortoises are great but I'd soon lose one in my garden!"
I know it made me laugh too!! Mine will be a house tortoise but will have an indoor home. My living room is huge! |

Good point lickety! I think there are breeds that don't hibernate so would need to look into that x |

Yeah that's how we ended up with ours and i never feed him my son does and the crickets are kept out of sight lol...wax worms i don't mind giving him and he seems to like them more as the lazy sod doesn't have to work to catch them. |

Be verrrry careful about what tortoise you might buy - some species just aren't suited to a terrarium life .....
I've got a Turkish SpurThighed ... She's about 40 and a couple of kilos in weight !
Buyes from a reputable dealer ....
And have a look at the Tortoise Trust website fit the best advice  |
