"He's been given 38 years for murdering Tia Sharpe."
It's a life sentence with a tariff recommendation of a minimum of 38 years before being considered for parole.
In reality it's a whole life sentence bearing in mind his age.

"Minimum 38 years I'm sure it said"
Thats slightly better then but he will have a cosy life in segregation he wont be allowed to mix with other inmates for his own safety and will have 3 meals a day and be wrapped up safe in bed at night |

"the law should change far to many are getting away with it
hope he rots in jail"
Well clearly he isnt getting away with it is he?
I must admit it is reassuring to see a 'proper' sentence handed out when we often see far more lenient sentences |

I guess it was inevitable this thread would turn into a debate about the death penalty (which I assume is your point)
Personally I'm against it but only due to concerns about wrong verdicts. Obviously not applicable here given his change of verdict |

I'm against the death penalty full stop. Taking another life does not bring the other back. |

"38 years isnt long realy when that old lady has ben sentenced to death for having drugs thats what he should get"
I'm sorry but that is an impossible comparison as it is different jurisdictions and different rules. What it does demonstrate however is that you shouldn't fuck about abroad! |

I get annoyed with the view that we can assume a level of protection just for being British. |

I was just making a point that the sentences in our country are very weak compared to what seems like every other country
I get annoyed with the view that we can assume a level of protection just for being British."

He'll probably be in segregation while his mental health is assessed, then kept in isolation for a number of years before being allowed to mix with the general prison population. When he is, word will soon spread about who he is and what he's done. He'll either be beaten to a pulp or put straight back into segregation for his own good.
Either way the man is a monster who, in certain countries would get the death penalty that he deserves. One way of lessening the burden on the taxpayer of keeping him alive. |

The whole thing is just another example of the sordid, broken side of British society to me. The only blame free on in all this was a naïve, trusting 12 year old.
The perpetrator was on the road to nowhere, the child had been removed from the parents due to their criminal drug activity, Hazell had had a relationship with the Grandmother, the Mother and as a final culmination sexually murdered the child.
I see no evidence of any of them working or contributing to society. How does one stop this seemingly self perpetuating endless cycle ?
I have no idea, I wish I did, but the poor murdered child herself had very little chance of breaking free of the influence of her enviroment |

What this guy said.
When the media furore dies down, he won't have an easy ride.... At the moment he is in the spotlight and will be protected.
It will be a few years before the screws conveniently leave him alone with a maniac or unsupervised long enough to hang himself... Just look at what is happening to Ian Huntley...

"there is also a show tomorrow night on itv the tonight show. Im very sus of the grandmother as the body was in her home for days how did no one know"
If the police couldn't find it until the 3rd search, how was she supposed to know it was there? How often do you crawl about in your loft? Never been in mine - ever! |

Stuart grew up in my area and went to the same middle school as the people I went to primary school with..
My friends neighbour was working on the case when she went missing and says the grandmother is no way as innocent as she makes out. Sadly not enough evidence against her |

I would know if something started to rot and decompose in my loft i would smell it. The police are under scrutiny for not finding her body after searching it so maybe the body was moved to there. Wasnt there something about a neighbour being possibly involved and the body being stored in their house first then moved? maybe this was disproved but i do feel the grandma isnt as innocent as she makes out |

She was never charged with anything, was never put in the dock and so, is innocent. |

"Sadly no matter what length of jailtime he ultimately serves.... it can never put right his crimes.... "
Sadly true...
But... At least he will not be released to cause injury and grief to others... |
