Not the cheeriest of subjects but something I've been delaying for a while.
It's already creating arguments and I wondered if any of you good folk had any advice to offer ... |

A good lawyer will be able to advise and that might help sort the arguments. Depends on what you're disagreeing about really. Charitable donations are exempt from inheritance tax and help reduce that liability so leave it all to the cats home! |

I had a will since I was sixteen. It has gotten changed over the years by having children etc. I have items that have been in my family for years that have been given to those that I think will enjoy and cherish them the most. My money that I gained though other people's will's has already been put into trust for my daughter.
My advice is if you have money either give it before or have a good lawyer to reduce how much the treasury gets at the end.
Just remember two out of three guide dogs are from wills. Live long and give the tax man nothing as jimmy Carr would say |

only thing I really no is that if there are family member you wish to cut out make sure you leave them 1p if you don't they can argue you had mearly forgot them while on your death bed.........iv a close family can you tell lmfao  |

Funny you should mention wills as im in the process of making one, im writing it all out what i want in one and then going to the solicitor to get it done.
Remember, its not just about material things but your wishes about your funeral ect ect. Ive already got an advanced statement.
If you have wowcher they have a will writing offer that comes up every so often with a professional lawyer. I will be using my own solicitor but its a good offer |

Ring around a few solicitors and get a quote. A standard Will is usually a set fee, a more complex will be charged at an hourly rate.
Don't waste your money on will writing companies or buying a diy pack from WH Smith. Whilst this seems a cheaper option, they are fraught with difficulties when you die and the will comes into effect. You don't want everything you've ever worked for to be contested at a time your family will be grieving. A lot of these companies won't get the best advice regarding bequests and lots will offer to store the will, never to be found again.
For the cost of around £300 you will have peace of mind and solicitors are governed by the Law Society and your will can be stored in their vaults, let family know you've made a will and where to contact.
Let solicitors do the job they are paid for and you will benefit from good legal advice.  |

I personally wouldn't go with any offers from Internet sites, even if they promise a fully qualified lawyer.
Go to an established solicitors firm. Don't cut corners, wills are important, especially if you have property |

I have a clause in my will, explicitly explaining that a certain family memeber has been omitted and the reason why, this was advised by my lawyer. |
