We went to see Star Trek last night, it was OK, but you have seen it all before.

The last film I saw that really made me say wow, was the Lord of the Rings trilogy... and thats over 10 years ago.

Les Mis - I'm going to buy the DVD after work.

The visuals in it were phenomenal.

I'd agree with LOTR. We were so blown away we visited New Zealand to see the scenery for real ... and were blown away for a second time

For me it was 'TT 3D closer to the edge' The scene of going down bray hill, and the camera was on the front of the bike brilliant beginning.

Some of the cinematography in Skyfall was beautiful...as a photographer I sat watching it composing stills for most of the film !

Watched Avatar on TV on Saturday night and for the life of me I don't know why we saw it twice at the cinema (normal 3D and iMax 3D) and bought the DVD too !

If we are talking about "before CGI", then Gone With The Wind, as seen in a cinema.

Visually it had to be Avatar. The rendered environments, given they were all CGI, were just incredible and visually stunning - like someone had rubbed methamphetamine on your eyeballs.

Shame the plot, acting & direction were an utter bag o' shite.
