I was doing the washing up yesterday and noticed a TINY fox cub come trotting down the garden right up to the house. It was the size of a large kitten/smallish puppy.
Since ive lived at the house we have had a vixen regularly in the garden and two weeks ago noticed she came with a male.
I live in centralish Bristol, an urban area but my garden is large and very overgrown at the bottom and quite private.
Question-should a fox cub that young be away from the vixen?
Google has been unhelpful!

Yes mum has probably moved the litter and she does that one by one the chances are she will come back for the cub.
Keep an eye on it though and if its there in the morning call the RSPCA |

Our resident couple bring their 4 cubs into the garden and one of them is always running off, only to be grabbed by mum/dad and brought back to the others. RSPCA is a good place to start with advice |

Yeah the cubs are a few weeks old now so the vixen will leave then for a few hours here and there, to get food , and they do tend to wander but not too far though, the den is probably closer than you think and the vixen well know where they all are. Just leave them be. My advice tbh is never phone the rspca about foxes, because they do more harm than good when it comes to foxes. They'll raise fox cubs and then release them with no hunting skills or knowledge of living wild and they are the foxes that cause the biggest problems on farms and such |

Thanks
Just wanted to make sure it would get back to them-im sure the den is only at the end of the garden!
Very attatched to the mother, she was in a terrible state this time last year with mange and we managed to sneak her some medication through food and she recovered!
The cub was only visible for a few minutes, it then ran back to the hedge. No need to call the RSPCA i dont think-theyre wild animals and if its in trouble theres not much we can do unless we catch it which would be difficult!
Thank you guys! |
