I always took it as a privacy thing and safeguarding against photo collectors and the possibility of their neighbour or child's teacher being on the site and browsing their profile. It's a small world after all.

There may be people who are ashamed to be on here but I suspect they don't have any pictures at all and rarely arrange to meet.

The reasons will be many and varied. I show enough of my face that I feel comfortable that people can recognise me but not enough that means my picture can be used to find me generally.

Personally I have had someone copy my photos previously and forward them to friends and family.

So for that fact alone I don't trust anyone with a photo of me fully naked with a head shot.

Because I work in a male dominated industry where everyone knows everyone else's business. If one wrong person discovered I was a swinger and bleated it to all and sundry my career to date could be shot to pieces. Then I'd have no job. Then I'd have no money. Is that a good enough reason?

Fine for many if they are sending each other messages however you only have to go back through the last few months of threads to find ones about recognising someone from here and asking if they should approach. This goes to show that there are many users who don't see approaching someone out in the real world as unacceptable and an invasion of privacy. There even was a thread by a woman who was pestered on a bus while with her child. When things like this happen its natural for many to protect their anonymity to an extent don't you think?
