We all know there is a very diverse group of people on here.
With the Grand National coming up this weekend, do we have people with knowledge of the horse racing world who could give us any good tips? Let's face it we could all do with a bit of a win couldn't we? |

Given my extensive knowledge of horses and racing.
My best tip is... To bet on the horsey that wins!🤣 Otherwise it's dog food..Failing that keep your money as the only winner is the bookmaker in this heinous and cruel sport. |

Don't bet on it, as the odds are against you, so save the money, put it in your pension and immediately get an extra 25% from tax relief.
Also, it saves on supporting an unpleasant sport that results in horses being killed. |

I've already got my pension so now I'm enjoying life. A little flutter on one race a year is a little pleasure I can afford. |

Iroko has been prepared with the Grand National in mind and is one of the favourites so my £10 win will be on that one about 8/1.My £3 each way is Meetingofthewsters finished 8th last year and trained by Willie Mullins about 20/1. |

Was wondering when this topic was going to show up
The Grand National tests my love of both racing and betting every year. It's nice to get a winning bet but to me, it only feels more sweeter if all horses return safe & sound (2023 was totally unenjoyable despite adding to my winners tally ).
My record of betting is interesting, started at the age of 10 when my dad chucked me the paper & asked me to pick a horse. I chose what would become my 1st of many winners: Earth Summit.
It fascinated me so much that I quietly learned a lot about the race, started backing more than 1 horse & after the infamous Mon Mome National of 2009 where I backed quarter of the field (earning a heavy loss despite getting a placed runner & getting a earful off my dad), I changed my approach from gut instinct to doing a trends elimination system on the Saturday morning of the race (inspired by a book purchase in Chester) & well, having a better success rate even if there is a little homework to do
Overall my record reads as follows since 1998:
8 winners
27 placed runners
8 complete blanks (years I had no success).
I'd be happy to do another post detailing those fully if anyone's interested |

Don't bet on the favourite..
Don't bet on the one with blinkers.
Don't bvet on a filly
A 9 or 10 yr old has won more times. Red Rum -exception 11 yr old. However, I do recall a 13Yr old winning once...
Pick on a 9/10/11 year old with really a high odd say 100/1 or more with the Sun free bet if they are doing it. Buy 3 Sun's and put a free one on at 3 different Ladbrokes..... Iv'e done 2 before...
Look at the going as Fri is supposed to be a hot one... Horses that like that going may fair better... May...
If you are a bird take a punt on a female jockey/trainer/owner. Why not?
Don't bet till Saturday cos in the morning they announce horses pulled out of the G.N.
I've always taken the odds as they are. The market can fluctuate...
Right - obvious one. 1ST RULE: DON'T BET ON WHAT YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO LOOSE! 2ND RULE: IF YOU DON'T WIN - DON'T MOAN ABOUT IT COS YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN DOING RULE ONE!
Bet safely put a £5 on or a £1 to win. You could bet to place but I'm an all or nothing guy.... Let Kismet decide.... |

"My options below
Stumptown
I Am Maximus
Intense Raffles
Iroko
Out of these which has less weight than the other would be a dead cert built with stamina
Good luck " . It hard to oppose the Mullins and Townsend combination on I Am Maximus that won last year. However on this occasion carrying 11st & 12lbs I think it maybe a bit too much for him. |

Obviously depends what it's up against weight wise but if it carries the stamina it's going to carry the weight. I think might actually be a woman owner that'll win |

"Don't bet on horses.
Best tip ever.
I'm far from being a gambler but everyone enjoys a couple of quid on the national, don't they?"
Nope. never have never will.
I'll keep my opinion to myself on the reason why I think it's cruel |

Grangeclare West has the best recent form, but even though the National is not the challenge it used to be, it is still a track where course form has its place. I Am Maximus may be weighted out of this year"s renewal, but Meetingofthewaters, who looked the likely winner over the last fence in 2024, only to fade on the run in, could certainly improve his position this year. However my main bet at 33-1 (now 12-1) is Minella Cocooner, who has been quietly brought to a peak this season and looks primed to run a big race. One at a big price who could creep into the first six is Conflated. Good luck with whatever you bet on. I hope they all come home safe. |

"Gambling? Denise Coates, founder and CEO of Bet365 has "earned" £1.1 billion in four years. So who do you think is the real winner of gambling?"
Yup, off the back of other people's addiction and misery... Similar to the illicit drugs trade, only the government make billions off it in tax and gambling licenses...(like alcohol and smoking) They wouldn't dare stop other people's demise because of it.🥴 |

Well sat through my yearly trends elimination system for this year's Grand National & here are my 6 tips for this year:
Minella Cocooner (backed at 12-1)
Beauport (22-1)
Bravemansgame (40-1)
Threeunderthrufive (28-1)
Kandoo Kid (16-1)
Hyland (20-1)
Hoping to get a good run for my money as always 🤞🏻 2 other runners who had caught my eye: Hewick for his purchase price, viral drinking antics & freakish class and Iroko who is trained locally up the road from me in Malpas didn't make the cut due to differing reasons but then if I followed gut instinct again like 2009, I'd be ruining myself with my pockets again 🙄
Good luck to everyone with your tips (irrespective of whether you share my thoughts or not, I don't bear ills) & better than any winnings made, hope all runners return back safe and sound 🤞🏻❤ |

Got thrown out bookies few years back for trying to put my 1st GN bet on. Asked them what odds on between 1 and 3 horses getting shot that afternoon. Snd he took offense to it. Despise the "sport" all in, but the GN is even worse |

Re thread title..
The grand national is a once a year housewife's bet..hardly an addiction and misery..
The government does not make billions or millions off the betting industry..in fact very little.. as most bookies ,including William Hills etc pay tax to offshore accounts..not UK.. |

When selecting a horse make sure it has CD or D next to it on racecard. The letters indicate it has won at either the course and distance or won at thedistance. This means the horse horse has stamina to cover the National distance which is really a prerequisite. |

So that jockey got a poxy 10 day ban for FORCING a horce to continue even when it was in no fit state to do so. Said horse has since been destroyed, so now why arent the owners, trainers and jockeys charged with causing un-necesary suffering, and all the people who bet on this outdated, barbarity, charged with ading and abetting. Bet tge jockey thinks he got a right snip at only 10 day ban |

It's heartbreaking isn't it. The ban should be a lifetime ban and prison.
Hate any kind of horseracing, seeing people ponce about like royalty while horses are being destroyed and over worked is sickening....For what? Human greed |

"Well my money is on Beauport, but what do I know!"
How did it do?
I remember years ago when there was a horse with a Jersey place name (Còrbiere). Virtually every punter in the island bet on it and it won, almost bankrupting the local bookies.
Did someone enterprising have a repeat in mind this year? |

Ive read that apparently the bha supposedly say he had no underlying health issues, so hes either been murdered by running to death, or uf he had health issues, murdered by his owners for making him run. And at 100.1 odds he was out his depth |

"Did anyone win?" . I didn’t get the winner but two family / extended family members did as they have the name Nick in their family. The winner was called Nick Rockett so I am guessing people called Nick or who family / friends called Nick may have got the winner.
