"York is really lovely I need to go back again, loved it last time.
There is an excellent Group Social there four times a year.
Do you get commission? "
If the organisers get lucky I'm allowed to watch. |

"Leeds is a great city break, plus you have two swinging clubs there if it's your thing. "
Leeds and York are easy to combine as they are only 25 minutes apart by train and the trains run through the night as the line is a major link to and from Manchester airport. |

Stamford is very quaint, a bit small for a full weekend but rather lovely.
I adore Cambridge. So very much. Many happy memories of May balls, delicious buns and long nights interspersed with kisses in a certain library. It's perfect for a long weekend - lots of cute bakeries, walks, museums, bookshops and great bars to drink in.
York is great but I don't know if I'd recommend it for a weekend - it gets ridiculously busy. The Shambles can be an absolute shamble.
I'm going to Northumberland soon and very much looking forward to that.
What about the Lake/Peak district? Depending on when you can find accommodation that isn't awfully absurd in terms of pricing. Great walks, a nice hot tub. Oh the Cotswolds! But that's rather pricey.
I suppose it depends on what you like OP. Budget. That kind of thing.

"Well I think we might give York another go.
Is it the nightlife busy? As we do like to get out and about of an evening "
York has a bit of everything if you go on a race day it can be very busy so keep that in mind when booking |

It can be busy on a weekend and as someone has already said NEVER go on a race day because it's insane.
The busiest area is probably right in the middle near Stonegate and Swinegate but if you want something a little bit quieter then head for Fossgate, High Petergate, or Goodramgate all of which are only a very short walk away. Or just a few minutes further away there's Micklegate on the other side of the Ouse.
There are about 100 bars inside the city walls so if one place is heaving just try next door.
For a summer evening I'd recommend walking the stretch of wall behind the Minster then visit a few bars right in the centre then head slightly out when it starts to get too busy. |

Problem with the popular places like York & Whitby/Robin Hoods Bay or Bath is they are full of crowds when the weathers nice. I prefer them in winter. Spring & Fall is the time for the NE coast places like Bamburgh, Alnwick, Farne island, holy island, sensible sunrise times . Or maybe north Norfolk coast , Blakeny, Wells , Burnam - or Tenby / Caldy Island even (outside school hols! ) |
