So what platforms did you use if you used them?
MySpace, Bebo, Profileheaven, Faceparty?
I found my old MySpace a couple of years ago and deleted it instantly. Cringed hard at what I used to post. |

I had a myspace music page.
Was great for uploading compositions and speaking/networking with other musicians from around the world.
It slowly but surely became a train wreck of a site after it was purchased by news corp/ murdoch...difficult to navigate, incredibly clunky etc.
Must have finally deleted my page around 2010/11. |

I used to use Six Degrees. That was waaay back when. Then Cycosmos for a little while. The ‘real’ social media sites started to pop up after that. I guess Friends Reunited was one of the early ones? Never really used that. |

I was there at the beginning.
US Robotics 56.6K modem.
"Dialling up" to the internet.
Using a newsreader to then get a list of boards to join.
I think most revolved around gaming/music.
That was how you did "social media" back in the day. And I think I somehow preferred the experience. You looked and found what interested you, instead of having things foisted upon you. |

"I remember faceparty that was a good laugh in it’s original format don’t think I was on any others "
I remember the people who ran it had a complete meltdown and suspended the accounts of people over a certain age on a whim. |

I was already too old for MySpace or Bebo. At those times I used ICQ to chat.
Before that, I used Bulletin Board Systems- BBSes. All DOS and text based. Skynet in Norway, ISCA in Iowa in the US, amongst many others.
There were news digests we would print on a pin printer and take the reams home to enjoy reading.
Chatting on Bitnet/IRC relays ….
I wasted so much fucking time and my dad’s money on university tuition doing this.

MySpace and faceparty really back in the day. I used to use the AOL chatrooms when I was like 13 and really shouldn't have be on there 😅 back when there was no such thing as safeguarding online. Saw some sights 🤣 |

"I had a MySpace for my photography, great fun"
We had one for our band
I remember when Facebook first came out and people describing it like a shit version of my space where you can’t customise anything and people saying what’s the point of it then? |

MySpace. Couldn't really get onboard with Bebo but MySpace? Yeah, I went full emo Lit student. Quotes. Music playing. Shameful fringe and pen bun. Dog collar. Hatred of people. I was so unique.

"Oh I also used collarspace. No wonder I turned out the way I did
Wasn't that collarme? Or was it a different one?"
I think that was a different one, unless it changed it's name. I'm sure it was Collarspace when I used it. It was very similar to here in layout/design but even more shit and archaic looking. Fab for kinky people basically. |

"Also used MSN for keeping in touch with real life friends as well as the online degenerates 😂msn 😍
Nudge "
Our early relationship was largely curated via MSN Messenger, especially when Mr KC worked offshore |

"Loved BBS , ICQ my first ever cybersex…
Who remembers “what’s your ASL ?”"
Always a few years older than in reality, the right gender and somewhere more interesting than where I actually lived. 😇😇😂😂😂 |

Everyone was somewhere more interesting than where we actually lived…
One Bitnet mod was in Cyprus. I couldn’t get my head around that. Cyprus. Had to pull out dad’s world atlas to pinpoint its exact location.
Now I go to Larnaca for work there and back once in a while, haha!
Please bear in mind I was in North America at the time, so islands where the height of exotic.
Later on came the Antarctica researchers … Mind.Boggling.
Now I can see them on TikTok anytime I like. Don’t know if that is necessarily a good thing. |

MSN Messenger - it was chaos back in the early days so of course it had to be reigned in with people using it for very dubious activities. But am still in contact with friends I met via there and many I've later met up with in real life despite us living thousands of miles apart. |

"Faceparty was great. You could look and interact with anyone on there, easy to navigate and adult only content photos that you had to pay to see. "
Paying for full use of a site?
It'll never work! |
