What songs bring back extra special memories?
Jump to: Newest in thread
We all love music.. With its richness, it’s beats, its ability to stir up emotions and make us feel alive.
Everyone of us has extra special memories that are fundamentally linked with a song.
For me it’s “Roads” by Portishead. A female trainee doctor was practicing her medical skills whilst this song was playing.
Or Radiohead “Creep” a long overdue kiss at a works Christmas party.
Or Pulp’s Common People… a teenage party where too much Malibu was consumed and my hair and eyebrows were shaved.
Or even the classic tear jerker “Everybody hurts” by REM over and over again during a particularly painful loss of a relationship.
So my question to you all is….
What songs bring about extra special memories for you and why?
Let’s see how this does for a Friday afternoon….
(Good job I’m not a psychology student and reliant on volume of comments to pass)

Good tunes…. And excellent choice in gigs plus your grandad sounds like a legend…
Awwww uni days… where most people go nuts and you spend the rest of your life trying to go back…. Did you get new speakers in the end? |

So many songs!! for so many memories!!
OK, to pick one of the top of my head, may not be the greatest song nor the greatest memory, but it's the first that popped in there...
Leftfield's 'Swords'. Takes me back to that memory in an instant. |

Apologies for being tardy to this party (distracted by my flit to Malpas ) but it had given me time to think on this topic
Nowhere But Up by Knives At Sea: First heard this on Duke Video's 2020 World Rally Championship season review & it remotivated & rejuvenated me on the dartboard after spending most of the year not throwing a dart because of 2020 reasons
Do You Hear The People Sing from Les Miserables: Reminds me of the end of my Royal Mail career as with strike action during 2022, it made me realise I wasn't happy on the wage I was taking home, working more hours than I was earning for & developing a poor work/life balance. Glad later that year I left after nearly 15 years
One Step Beyond by Madness: The very darts player walk-on I ever knew for the "Dazzler" Darryl Fitton who walked on to this tune wearing sunglasses & doing the nutty boy dance met him a few times at darts exhibitions & won a leg against him
Shut Up & Dance With Me by Walk The Moon: A tune with mixed emotions for me as although it's a darts walk-on tune for former world champion "Bully Boy" Michael Smith, it was the opening tune to my aunt's funeral a couple of years ago & she loved her ballroom dancing
Green Light by Pitbull: I blame Luke "The Nuke" Littler for this being a earworm tune especially when I'm waiting at a crossing for the green light
& last but by no means least, Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen: Takes me back to my college days where me & my classmates play a Queen album in the college engineering workshops when doing lessons only to lessen learning to sing this song in falsetto much to the chagrin of our tutors (who ironically introduced us to the musical strains of Queen) |

19/20 year old me screaming out the lyrics to "Where's Me Jumper?" by The Sultans of Ping FC blasting out of the deafening PA system at Manchester's legendary but very grotty indie-rock night club Fifth Avenue as hundreds of us crammed on to the dancefloor "bumper to bumper" circa 1993.
Simple great fun from - what seemed - simpler times. Brilliant nights and even more brilliant memories. |

Six Feet Under The Stars - All Time Low. Reminds me of some of the best gigs I went to!
Summertime - My Chemical Romance. Reminds me of the early days with Mr 🫶
Cassiopeia - Bears In Trees. A song that our daughter and I bonded over. The song that made me fall in love with her favourite band. And now my fave thing is going to their gigs with her! 🫶
Countdown - Beyonce. Such a fun song, that reminds me of Summer roadtrips with my besties.
Coat Of Many Colours - Dolly Parton. Will always bring fond memories of my nain (grandmother). |

"nature boy" nat king cole. One of the few tapes I owned growing up was a nat king cole greatest hits album. This one always gives me shivers. Beautiful.
"She makes my day" Robert Palmer. It was "our song" for 27 years.
"Firework" Katy Perry. My trans anthem. "Maybe the reason why all the doors are closed, so you can open one that leads you to the perfect road. Like a lightning bolt your heart will glow and when it's time you'll know." I'm not crying, it's raining. Shut up.
"Pink panther" scene queen. My kinda dirty.
"Pink pony club" chapel roan. "On the stage in my heels, that's where I belong" yep. Yepyep.
