Aren’t you sick of seeing this? Not just on here but I’m dating sites are they the really boring people that should be avoided?

I quite like the ask me anything threads in the forums. Some of the questions can reveal more than the answers.

Thing is most of us do ask the things that we want to know I don’t think we need permission to. Don’t we assume a certain transparency if we’re gonna potentially get into a sexual or other kind of relationship? |

I take people at their word, and ask a question that I genuinely want to know the answer to: like, is there life in a sub-surface ocean on Callisto? Or, is it true that atoms are aware of being observed during the two slits experiment? Or, who would win in a fight, Umberto Eco or Jorge Luis Borges? Or, why can’t birds fly backwards?

I long ago stopped assuming transparency and in a private conversation as I said a request to "aske me anything" would make my mind go blank. |

Also if you're getting to know someone quite well it can be quite liberating to be given the opportunity to ask questions. If someone I knew a bit said "what would you like to know about me, ask me anything?" I would probably think a bit more deeply about my questions |

Try speed dating! That was painful. How was my day? What's my job? There were 14 men rotating round 14 women and it was boring! By half way I was banning talk of work and probably sounded like a high handed nob  Turns out a lot of men are put off by pet snakes too  |

I think the comments you make about dating sites are very valid and it’s because nobody really puts in any proper effort anymore because there is always something potentially just a little bit better a few clicks away…
So instead people just put up the profiles hardly ever check messages and then reply with the standard. Oh sorry I haven’t checked on her for ages. Would you like to go for a drink? You’re halfway through a conversation and you can tell they’re having 5 others and distracted. |

I can't say that I feel that strongly about it, but I appreciate that it could be irritating for some people.
I'm quite a go with the flow type person, I like agendas to evolve in conversation, and for people to be comfortable asking me what they want to know about me. Personally, I find it a more natural and mutual way to initiate conversation than swapping CV's or whatever.
I guess I don't see it as a lack of a personality, just perhaps not a personality that works for you.
Honestly, I am more put off by people who just talk about their achievements, what they own etc. Or their hamster. That's boring for me. There's only so many times I can hear how cute a hamster is or what proportion of sunflower seeds they prefer. |

The threads are easily enough ignored if they are not your thing. In the very early days of chat I don't like very intrusive questions as the person is still a stranger but once I know them better I am much more open. |

I don’t mind them on the forum but if someone messages me and says “can I ask you a question” a squirrel dies somewhere. Fact.
I feel overwhelmed by lots of questions. I wouldn’t last 3 seconds as a spy before I was blabbing my heart out. |
