Who is your favourite female musician
Jump to: Newest in thread
I heard ages back that people over the age of 35ish stop listening to new artists so I've been an effort to find new people.
I have a playlist full of women artists on the newish side
Chappell roan, ashnikko, scene queen, dua lipa, Delilah bon, doja cat, Charlie xcx, Katy Perry... |

Carly Simon for 'Nobody does it better'
Minnie Ripperton for 'Les Fleurs'
Shirley Bassey for ...well, being Shirley Bassey (but give her cover of 'light my fire' a listen 🔥🔥🔥) |

Cindy Blackman and Sheila E are both incredible drummers.
Orianthi is a great guitarist, she would have been on tour with Micheal Jackson if he hadn't died.
I also love the way Tori Amos plays piano.

Kate Bush
Debbie Harry
Beth Gibbons
Alanis Morrisette
k.d. Lang
Madonna
St. Vincent
Grimes
To be fair though, my music collection is dominated by males & male bands. I’ll get pelters for this & accused of being a sexist bar steward (I’m really not) but men make better music generally just as men make better comedians.
Facts are facts, sorry

A favourite, I am too whimsical for favourites.
I keep coming back to Norah Jones, Beth Orton, Dolores O'Riordan, Nia Archives, Keidra Johnson, The Larkin Poe sisters, Lila Ramani, Michelle Joy, Tessa Murray.
Clare Torey's performance on Great gig in the Sky sends me into a trance and I feel it like waves inside my skin. Maybe that's the best performance, but it's hard to even call that my favourite.
I respond to emotion in songs and music, when it resonates for me - they all do that for me, in different ways. |

Florence from Florence & The Machine
You've Got The Love & Shake It Out were brought to my attention through end of season montages of the British Superbike Championship in 2009 & 2011 but Shake It Out proving more influential a tune to me reminding me to not get too nervous & to kick the mental health demons |
