This was a first for me when I went to my local aquatic store looking for a new algae eater. My friend came across this tank with 3 discus fish. One was practically on its side under a plant looking out of sorts!! She questioned a staff member and was told the other 2 are a pair and she was being submissive..... well that's a first!! am no fish expert but has anyone else heard of this type of behaviour in fish??? |

Yep, common really, although usually the 'sub' fish will stay out of the others way at the other end of the tank-not lay on its side!! |

It's very common in Discus, but the 'submissive' one should really be taken out, especially if the other 2 are a breeding pair. They'll kill the odd one, although if it's laying on it's side, sounds like they've already had a go!! |

Typical Cichlid behaviour, I prefer a more dominant fish, like the Oscar!!
Discus are beautiful fish, quite intelligent.... and good parents!!!
Very tranquil to gaze at in a nice tank!! |

Well the member of staff did say that the pair would not be in the tank long as it was rather small as well and she did look a really sad discus which seemed unfair. |
