There's always been news... The difference is the rise in social media that has led to more divisive and extreme opinions being shared online and people taking those extreme views into the real world which has it's own implications.

So yeah, social media became a thing, one thing led to another and Elon Musk ends up doing a Nazi salute at a Presidential Inauguration 🤷‍♂️

All over

I rarely watch news these days and of the opinion thatvif anything significant happens will here it from someone. It seems lots feed on propaganda of one sort of another, creating extreme views, setting on against the other. It even sips on here. No interest in it at all

The world has been going mad since we left the trees.

But there does seem to have been a slight uptick in the amount of madness in recent years.

All over devon, I love a road trip!

I've always had a hatred for greed. It always seems like someone is making money or gaining power from it or getting 'something' out of it to be better than someone else.

You'd think as an intelligent race we'd be trying to stick together. All the good we could do together I know...crazy idea

It’s not how it seems , you are reading the wrong stories , there are many people doing great things. I spent much of my 30s working with organisations like the Trussel Trust and all kinds of people the ones who remortgage the houses to set up community centres or other projects, the ones picked up by helicopters at an hours notice and sent to do things like first line tsunami relief, right through to ones just showing random acts of kindness to strangers, and everything in between….

Also take comfort in this piece of scientific research done a few years ago, analysing the long-term effects of being good or being bad. They looked at things like crime families and corrupt leaders following them 2 to 3 generations along and it is very clear humans progress far. more by collaboration, kindness and generosity.

Cyberbalkanisation. It's almost as if Chomsky's manufacturing consent was used as a blueprint.

Little echo chamber pockets, where there's just enough space for debate as to allow people to feel they have a voice, but never to the extent that it will change the status quo or effect any change.

You made the story up. Nobody cares whether you are employed or not or whether you claim benefits or not.

I made my HR comment within 12 minutes of Joe suggesting I make the gesture at work. As opposed to making the story up I was leaning towards a more comical response (remember comedy is subjective) but who elected you spokesperson for the whole site? I'm sure there are some who care whether I'm employed or unemployed, whether I claim benefits or not, but more importantly, why do you care so much that I state I'm not on benefits?
