It depends on what kind of birth experience you have?

I've had 3, all very different. 2nd one was very "natural", at home, no drugs or interventions. It's weird because, at the risk of sounding clichéd, it hurts but the pain is constructive and in waves, so not constant. And then the endorphins and all that kick in after delivery. Perfectly designed to make you forget about the pain and the high, just wow! Better than any drug or sexual experience I've ever had!!

Yes, it does hurt. I gave birth to 2 babies without any sort of pain relief. With one my blood pressure was too low and the other one there was not time, she was born within 5 minutes of me arriving to hospital!

But having my dislocated, fractured ankle reset in A&E hurt a thousand times more. Never felt pain like it. Makes my heart beat faster and sweat a bit when I think about it… 😰

I'm that case yes it hurts,I have 3 children all different labours but my 2nd child i was in labour for 36 hours and couldn't contract enough, my daughter was stuck her. Whilst her heart rate was going down mine was going up which ended in an emergency c-section. The recovery of a c-section is painful. Everyone's experiences are different but I didn't find any of my labours a breeze

I find it strange how other women experience childbirth.

There wasn’t that ‘holding my baby made me forget the pain’ for me. It took awhile for me to connect to my child and before I did so, yes, I was very aware of how I felt like my body had been ripped open. The first purposefully cut to retrieve him quicker and the second being ripped open from not being properly dilated.

It hurt a great deal.

You're not alone, there are many women who have this experience and can tend to feel guilty. I really hope that this isn't you. The journey is hard as it without that type of self judgement.

I probably did feel guilty at first, not helped by some family judgement. But I did connect with them both and don’t think harshly of myself that it wasn’t instant.

If men could get pregnant, we’d figure a way of how to do it in half the time. 9 mths seems a little excessive to have time off work.

I had my first child at a young age. I signed something when I got in the hospital. No idea what I'd agreed to.

Had so much pethidine I was out of it and too tired to push.

Can't remember the pain, just loads of people I'd apparently agreed could come and watch.

Second child I had a little pethidine and the pain was quite bad, but I'm a brave girl and took it like a boss. I had one suck on the gas and air and decided against it.

Third child I stayed at home for as long as possible and breathed through the burning pain.

Got to the hospital too late for pain relief, but didn't want it anyway as it makes me tired.

One hour and a torn perineum later I had a 9lb 4oz baby with a big head force it's way out of me.

Short answer:- yes, it fucking hurts monumentally bad, but, us women are strong and suffer the pain for the joy of growing a human being that our partners have helped to conceive.

The more pain you're in and the closer together the contractions are the nearer you are to having your baby in your arms.

I welcomed the pain.

That's only because men are big babies when it comes to pain, and women are built to combat pain.

I had just turned 17 when I had my first one and had to be induced, which was excruciating to me they had to break my waters too, unfortunately it wasn't all pain free, but he was 9lb 7oz, my middle child I was in labour for a week one contraction a day, again they had to break my waters, and she was 9lb 9oz, my third was a breeze lol I enjoyed her labour and she was my smallest at 8 and a half pound.

But in answer to your question yes it's painful but we'll worth the pain at the end of it.

It's just about the most dangerous thing that a woman can do. And if it wasn't for the NHS model of treating you without needing to see a credit card first, a huge number of folk every day would face the very stark choice between life threatening complications during a birth with no medical backup, or literally going bankrupt with the costs if anything went wrong during the birth.

1. Elective c-section. She was footling breech. I was awake, but no pain during, just felt strange. Pain after was minimal, recovery was fine.

2. Was due an elective c-section 4 days before due date, but went into labour the morning of! Yes, it hurt. Not as bad as I thought it would, but yeah, ouch.

3. I went into labour a week after due date. He was back-to-back, and MY DAYS, I thought I was dying from the pain! Most empowering birth, I had.

4. First time being induced. Labour was traumatic. We were rushed for a catagory 1 emergency c-section, the cord around her neck. As they were prepping me, I felt my womb rupture, and then I drifted off. We almost didn't make it. ALMOST! Recovery was/is the hardest, obviously.

I've also had 3. All ridiculously fast. First in hospital where the diamorphine hit after I'd given birth. Two at home and with no pain relief at all. Yes it hurt but in each case I was surprised after the delivery as I thought I was just getting started. I can't agree that any were better than sex and dr*gs, but it's amazing how quickly you forget the pain and are more than happy to go through it again!

Yes, although I find it hard to remember the pain. I know there was a lot though.

The worst part was actually the panic and rush for the emergency caesarian when they found low oxygen levels in number one. It was terrifying.

I was in pain after most of mine but thats cause all 4 of ours were c section(not through choice)

Nearly lost my 1st 6 wks early, 2nd I went into labour but didn't progress, I lost part of my bladder due to scarring in that one, 3rd was a straight forward c section, 4th was fairly straight forward and was sterilised and was home within 2 days as my pain management was good app

Painful and when you think how much could go wrong…

(Been watching too many medical dramas lately)

Glad my fallopian tubes were taken out a couple of years ago.

Couple of months ago when I was going to get the anesthesia for one of my 2 ankle surgeries with heavy use of X-rays, anesthetists realised I had no negativr pregnancy test. Angst went on despite me assuring them I was NOT pregnant and willing to sign anything…

One of the doctors looked at my notes and said “aw, come on, she is 51!” And despite all my fear and crying etc I just went “OI!!!!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

No respect to the elderly 🤣🤣🤣🤣 👵🏻 👵🏻

But yeah, nothing would make me go through pregnancy/birth ever again

Elective c section - up and walking the next day, home the day after that. The only thing I remember being painful was when they took the beads out after 6 days. I was advised to lie down as it would "knock me sick" - they weren't wrong.

The only other thing I'll add is about how women's pain is systemically undermined, around childbirth and everything else.

I don't have children, but over a decade ago I should have died because a doctor decided I was overreacting

My labour was induced as my daughter just didn’t want to leave her warm bath. She was 2 weeks late to the day.

It was horrendous. I had every drug going and eventually due to her heart rate dropping dangerously low I was sent for a c section as my body Just wasn’t dilating like it should have, even with the drugs.

On the table being prepped and they decided to pull her out instead.

I never had another baby after that.

I’m now a nan and my daughter had a c section due to pre eclampsia.

My second labour was fine. My first was hellish, my childs shoulder's got stuck so it was a full on emergency as they had to rip him out of me before he suffocated. He didn't breathe initially and I think that overrode any pain I felt at that moment in time.

I've had other things happen that physically probably hurt as much but nothing will ever beat that sobering fear.

I had a similar experience with my first, and it was an agonisingly lonely place to be. It was a 72 hour traumatic labour, which probably explains how I felt, and I didn't tell anyone that I didn't feel that maternal bond as I was so ashamed and felt like a total freak. He was about 8 weeks old when I first felt that overwhelming flood of love and joy. My relief was immense.

With my second the love was instant.

"My second labour was fine.

Your heart must have been in your mouth until you heard the screams.

Croydon

I will add my girl came out with 2 pushes when it came to that point. The time they recorded was 1 minute. I was in theatre bc of dropped oxygen and I really didn't want a C Section as I live on my own and needed to be mobile.

I got a big round of applause
